i thought i read on this site multiple times that this can be done. However, I just bought gift cards to pay my fees and I do not see that option on Marriott's website. Do I have to call Marriott to pay with gift cards? Thanks.

You need to add a "4" in front of the 15 Digit number on the gift card.

You can bring your account up on line, go to "pay maintenance fees", add the "4" to the front of your card number, enter the expiration date and pay.
It works fine on line.
You do not have to call, unless your MF's have not been published my Marriott yet.

If you bought the gift card before 12/31/2010, then you get 10 Marriott Reward points for every dollar on the gift card (up to 25,000 points per MR account). You can use multiple gift cards if one gift card does not total up to your MF. I think you also get points on your original credit card that you bought the gift card with. Depending on the card, it could be a pretty good double bonus!

Thanks, everyone. Putting the "4" in front of my gift card is not working for me, at least it didn't work last night. I'm going to try again tonight and call if I have to.

I bought the gift cards from one of my local supermarkets. In Ohio, we have a chain of supermarkets that sell gift cards and for every $50 in gift cards you buy, you get 10 cents off per gallon of fuel. A few times a year, you get 20 cents off a gallon for every $50 in gift cards you buy. Lots of people get free gas.

I'll let you guys know if/when this works for me. For some reason, I select visa, put the extra "4" in front of the gift card number and use the renewal date (12/2012 for my gift cards) but instead of the charge going through, I get a "declined" message. Frustrating but I'm starting to worry that I bought all of these gift cards and I can't use them for my maintenance fees.

When I tried prepaying for a Marriott hotel room with multiple cards the first card would always get declined. There must be sufficient balance on the first card to pay for the entire stay. Same may be true for maintenance fees.

gift card not working here either.

I was trying to use the giftcard received from the honeymoon registry (registry.marriott.com) using the normal 'add a 4' before the card number trick.

The card was declined. :annoyed: :crash:

Has ANYONE been successful in using a gift card to pay for any proportion of their maintenance fees this billing cycle?

please post your experiences.

I just paid my MF on 1/8/2011 in full. I used 2 different Marriott gift cards since the balance on first card was far less than the total owed. You might have to carefully match the proper name on the card, zip code and expiration date. I had to delete my middle name from the entry data. The expiration on my standard red gift card was 05/2020 which seemed a long way off. After each transaction was approved, I printed/saved a .pdf receipt and good to go.

One other interesting note: since each gift card was $1000 or less, then the shipping fee was only $1 each. If the balance was more than $1000, then the shipping fee went up to $8.50. Either way, Marriott makes money over the standard USPS postage, since it came in a regular envelope after 5 business days.

For me it failed using the auto-pay-by-phone (I assumed it failed since the card did not have enough funds for the entire MF).... so I made a partial payment using my first gift card via a "live" representative. I then paid the balance a week later using auto-pay-by-phone.

If your MF that you are paying are more than the value on the gift card, you need to make sure you are entering up to the value of the gift card. If all you have is $50 gift cards and you have 20 of them, you will need to do 20 different transactions.

You can't enter the total of the MF in the amount to pay box and then run the payment. The amount is over the value of the card and it won't authorize.
