PLEASE... I am very new to timeshare buying... I am looking into buying a Sheraton resort on the re-sale market.
If I buy a Sheraton/Starwood timeshare on the re-sale market. Can I convert my week into Sheraton/Starwood points? I would like to use my week in the future for points.....

When I bought my Marriot on the secondary market, I understood it would not convert to points.

Thanks in advance,
Doug

Resale buyers cannot convert to Starpoints unless they requalify the resale by purchasing another timeshare unit directly from Starwood. The general answer to your question is no.

Hi Doug - in general, the conversion rate to StarPoints is very poor, so I wouldn't let that be a major factor in my decision.

For example: I own a 2 bdm. ocean view unit at the Westin TS on Maui (WKORV) and it's worth 80,000 Starpoints. However, 80,000 Starpoints won't even get me a full week in a standard, no-view, room at the Westin or Sheraton Hotel on Maui.

The 3 best reasons to buy a Starwood resort, resale are:

1) The ability to convert to Staroptions and exchange within the internal Starwood exchange program for other very nice resorts. (Staroption mandatory Starwood timeshares only.)

2) The 3 day priority in II for other Starwood resorts. (ALL Starwood Timeshares.)

3) You love the resort and want to visit it on a regular basis.

Lots more info. at the top of the board.

Good luck! :hi:
