Calling with calling card at Royals Resorts

Just 2 days before we leave for the Royal Sands for two weeks. I am going to be purchasing a calling card for use while there. I have done this in the past and know that your minutes are about 1/2 of those on the card when calling from Mexico, but if I remember, the Royals charge a certain amount when you use a calling card but it is quite a bit cheaper if you use you calling card to call an access number in Mexico and then make the call from that number.

I know it isn't complicated, but I lost my instructions which I had with me last time. I think they only charge around $3.50 if you call the access number and around $15 if you use the number on the calling card. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

I will have my laptop with me so I can email those back home but I do enjoy calling them as well and since we'll be gone for two weeks, I would really like to call home.

Looking forward to leaving below zero weather in Minnesota and soaking up some sun and 82 degree temperatures.

Thanks for the help.:)

I can't remember if they still have that $3 connection charge. You might want to use the live chat on royalresorts.com to check. I found the person we "talked" to very helpful.

For the last few years instead of bringing a card from home, we have bought calling cards in the minimarkets at the Royals; the rates were comparable or maybe less than bringing a card from home, and there were no connection surcharges.

Another option is to sign up for Skype to use on your laptop.

PS - enjoy the warmth. We are now in Williamsburg VA and it is c-o-l-d. Not like Minnesota, but still not what we were hoping for in VA!

They still have the $3 charge....We used our calling card at any of the thousands of public phones around Cancun without any problem at all.

Also, if you go downtown (which we do almost every night) - there are internet cafes that are cheap cheap cheap! Not only for phones, but also for going online.

If you don't have a laptop, the Royals charge $5 for 15 minutes of usage. ouch.

Definitely "ouch", but if you buy a card for an hour the price per minute goes down and they take off however many minutes you use each time.
