I read somewhere about using your computer while oversee's to call. Anyone know about that? Going to Aruba in a few weeks and would like to try. If it works, thinking of maybe allowing DD to take laptop to Europe with her so we can call each other.

Anyone?

Sign up for Skype - it's pennies to call and great reception.

Skype

We're at the Marriott Aruba Surf Club right now and we've used Skype for the last week and a half. Works great.

Do you have to take your laptop with you to use Skype? That is not something I want to lug around.

Cheers

Yes you need a laptop to connect to the internet. Skpe is great and the voice quality is as good as a landline. I think the voice quality is even better than cell service. I tell everyone going to Aruba to get on board with Skype.

We are going to Surf Club on 6/15. Do I need to buy anything to use my computer with it - microphone, etc? or do I just sign up?

When are you leaving surf club?

Ok I was lazy...

This is what I did.

- I texted my kids/mom from my email account (I sent a text email to their cellphone). Telling them to call me (we have a monthy calling card plan called Perfect Sense (1-800-464-9801) and I realized when I returned that I could have used it in aruba ... oh well

- I used the resort phone $3 a minute (and 0.90 cent fee), but only called to tell them to call me back (I think I spent $8 total as I only did this 2 times)

- I was unable to use my cellphone...as sprint didn't get service there

We use Skype for our office meetings from different branches. Skype to Skype is free and most calls using Skype to either cell or land line are about 2 cents a minute.

If the resort has computers you might be able to use them but it's probably better to use your own laptop and carry a headset with mic with you.

I just signed up for the worldwide plan - $9.95/month with unlimited calls to us (and us mobile). Got it to work on laptop. Now I'm looking for a wifi skype phone that dd can take with her to Europe. I really don't want to send her with the laptop.

Anyone know if the wifi phones skype work well in Europe?

I was looking into Skype for my upcoming trip to Aruba., staying at LaCabana. The resort offers code controlled WiFi , which, according to what I have been told, is not compatible with Skype. Can anyone tell me if the information I received is correct?
