Here is a good one brought to me by a client of a friend of mine:

"I spoke with a woman in Daytona Beach, FL who offered to market my timeshare, then negotiate a sale that is higher than the price I paid for it. I paid $11,000. She said she would price it at $19,900 but that negotiations could chip it down. I would have the final say on the acceptance price. My fee for this would be $1,500.00. She guaranteed me an offer within six months. If I don't accept any offers they present to me, they would continue trying to sell it for another six months. She said that my timeshare, being at the low end, should sell pretty quickly."

Can you believe it? Luckily, in this case, the person with the TS was just a little suspicious when this scammer offered to sell the TS for so much more that the original purchase price. Had it not been for that, I think this person would have fallen for the scam.

Just curious -- how do you cope with the 10 dogs while you are off at the 12 timeshares?

Have a good day!

Pet sitter

We are so lucky. We have a wonderful young woman who works at the vet school stay in our home while we are gone. She just steps right into our normal routine and so the dogs make a stress-free transition.

Another positive is that the house is never unoccupied.

What a great solution. You can vacation with peace of mind.

We are currently (we hope temporarily) petless. The last of our almost 20 year old cats died last year and we are about ready for a pair of kittens. We've always preferred having someone come to the house rather than boarding them -- cats do NOT like to be disturbed.

Forum Etiquette :)

Hi;

Please forgive the breach of etiquette; I know I should pour through the myriad of posts and find the answers on my own before asking a question that may have been answered elsewhere.

The thing is, we are DOG/CAT people. We TRUST other DOG/CAT people. I happened across this exchange while I was sifting through sketchy ads promising to manage the sale/unloading of our timeshare at Daytona Beach Regency. All we want is OUT of our 12 year 'bad relationship' with this totally unused 2 bdrm lockout Albatross. If someone with some experience could just get us started in the process it would be much appreciated.

Regarding our pets :) : We recently went home to Canada (from Phoenix) for Christmas and had a young girl (18) stay at the house with our 11 y.o. Springer cross, 4 y.o. Black Lab, and 2 y.o. cat Sophie. We were only gone for a week. I paid her $200 in advance, invited her to have people over, have a party, whatever, as long as she was HERE. The house would be fine by itself but we like the pets to have the COMPANY while we're away. When we got home (remember, after only 7 days) the dogs had CLEARLY lost weight!! Of the food we left (and the medication for our oldest), barely TWO DAYS worth was missing!!!! Even now I get angry about it :( Not to mention some other 'weirdness': the hot tub was down about 8", large sectional was moved away from the wall, bathroom floor (stained concrete) was CHIPPED and there was makeup powder all around the chip as though a glass jar of foundation or something had fallen. She claims NOTHING happened. Of course, since I invited her to have people over, I would not be upset if that's what she did and whatever happened happened as a result of it, but to deny that anything even HAPPENED leads me to distrust EVERYTHING she says about how things went (like that she says she fed the pets!!!!)

Thanks for any help on the timeshare issue. I will now continue to search for the answers on my own anyway since I am ow registered on this forum :)

David - welcome to TUG! :hi:

Your instincts are right on - LEGITIMATE resellers charge a commission after the sell of your timeshare - the ones who charge a high upfront fee sell ADVERTISING not timeshares!

I don't know how much research you've done, but because of the economy the timeshare resale market has tanked and many, many people are trying to dump their timeshares because they can't afford the maintenance fees or to travel.

It's a tough pill to swallow, but most timeshares are worth 0-10% of their original purchase price these days. Right now there are over 200 timeshares for sale on ebay for $0 - $100 and most of them have no bids. If you own one of the very top timeshares (Marriott, Hilton, Starwood, Hyatt) it may be worth as much as 40% - but those are the exceptions.

If you find that you are in the 0-10% category you may just want to give it away (and do it yourself) to get out from under. I would consider that option first, because it is the lowest cost option.

There are two places on TUG where you can give away your TS's for free (no charge for the Ads.) There are also other low cost options on the web.

TUG Marketplace - the only cost is your TUG membership - $15 (List it for $1 and it will automatically go in the Bargain Basement Ads.)

Bargain Deals - just write a simple post with all the pertinent info. (zero cost)

To make it more attractive I would:

1) Pay 2010 maintenance fees

2) Pay for the title transfer (you can get a simple professional transfer for about $100)
I've used this company and the owner is a Tugger.

3) Reserve a popular holiday week in 2010 for the new owner

Good luck!

And don't forget to read the sticky post at the top of this section on how to sell a timeshare.

The post on selling a timeshare is full of very good advice. The only part that is a bit dated is what you can hope to sell your TS for. Denise's post has the more current info.

Good luck!
