I'm interested in buying RCI points resale on TUG website from a seller. I feel like its too good to be true. The ad says 75,000 rci points for .01$ it's an odd year timeshare there is no mention of a "home resort" anywhere on this ad. Maintenance fees are $1157
Is this enough points to book a week every other year at most resorts? I can't seem to find a place where I can see how many points are needed for resorts for different times of the year. I just want to know that I'd be buying something we can actually use....
My in laws have 2 timeshares and book through RCI and they have gifted us some amazing vacations in beautiful resorts. I just would like to know the pros and cons of purchasing this kind of resale RCI points. Any words of wisdom or personal experiences is appreciated.

That’s right….. there are better ownerships out there. Grandview 122K is a better value. It won’t be .01 but the MF is 200-300 less.

Look for another ownership

Grandview is a resort in Las Vegas. The 2 bedroom platinum week is worth 122,000 RCI points. Maint fee is around 1000

A few definitions, I believe, are in order. Your original post states you're looking at buying 75,000 points. That's not quite correct. What you are buying is ownership at a resort that's affiliated with an exchange service like RCI or Interval International. If you decide you don't want to stay at your resort during the time frame you own at the resort where you own you can "give" that interval/unit to the exchange service. In turn the exchange service will credit you with 75,000 points which you can use as currency to use time at another resort somewhere & when.

The answer to your question of will 75,000 points get a room somewhere else every other year is "it depends." It depends on where you want to stay, what size room you need, and when you want to stay.

The general guidelines I use for RCI are a Studio unit will cost you about 20,000 to 30,000 points, a 1 bedroom unit will cost you about 25,000 to 45,000 points, and a 2 bedroom will cost you about 40,000 to 75,000 points.

These numbers can be reduced a bit if you can make your reservations, based upon limited availability, within 90 days prior to travel. Of course working that way you will need to be VERY flexible on the where.

RCI also has units that will set you back 10,000 points or less, but the where & when becomes ever more restricted.

I’m new to this as well, so I hope to learn from your post. The resale market place is somewhat confusing. I have friends with a Bluegreen membership and I like their facilities but the RCI points values seem much better.

We own at a resort in Surfside, SC, Grand Palms, and we are paying fees of $1,116 but get 104,500 RCI points for our weeks. It's now Club Wyndham, so who knows if it can stay in RCI Points once transferred, but that's my plan. That's 1 cent per point. What you are seeing with that number of points to that MF cost doesn't add up. It's quite a bit more than 1 cent per point in maintenance fees.

For whatever reason, TUG members always say 1 cent or under per point is recommended for MF's. That doesn't allow for inflation, which has added substantially to my cost over the last ten years on my RCI Points. Kind of crazy that people truly do expect that to never increase.

One set of timeshare 'points' does not equate in any way with some other outfit's points. There is no common translation. So if you are comparing RCI Points, the numbers only equate with other RCI units. And to add to that the confusion, a point value that would get you a 2 bedroom in high (summer- or winter school vacation ski season) might be 50,000 points. But that same unit in Oct or March will cost 20,000 or less and if it still is vacant 45 days before move-in a week there will cost 7,500 points or even less ($285- for a week!)

Other outfits- Marriott, Bluegreen, Wyndham, all have their own systems and 'point' values. So avoid confusion by sticking with one system.

There is no primer to make sense of it all, it simply takes the time to research each system separately until it makes sense to you. Hanging around TUG for a few months might help, but there will be questions you won't find answered.
