I know of an owner from my resort that may want to sell his more desirable week to me. What is the best way to buy from a private party?

Make a deal with him/her and then let the title transfer company take over. Here is their website below:

+1 for www.LTTransfers.com - I've been using them for years, they are Tuggers, and they are highly regarded here on TUG.
 
And here’s the third vote for LT Transfers!
 
I bought one from a private party (through TUG2 market place). I made an offer spelling out EVERYTHING. The seller was very knowledgeable and I was a knowledgeable buyer. He accepted my offer and the terms and we both signed a contract that was submitted to LT Transfer. At the time they were doing a "soft escorw" (holding the check until Title change and acceptance by Marriott). As usual they did a great job at a very reasonable cost. That was probably my smoothest TS purchase.
