I currently own 5000 DRI points in the Hawaii collection. I'm being offered 1500 points but have to upgrade to HGV Max. Can I buy 1500 or so points resale and keep my Hawaii collection benefits?
Good advice! Buying small amounts of points is usually a bad idea. If you ever want to get rid of them, each purchase is a separate contract. If you want to pay DRI to take them back, you have to pay $1000+ for each contract. Deeded weeks are the way to go, and your maintenance fees will be less. We have deeded weeks at the Point at Poipu and have always been able to book oceanfront. The fees for enough points to book an oceanfront week are about 50% more than what we pay.In my opinion, paying developer prices to get Max is not worth it. Look at resale deeded weeks that you might like, you might even look for a reasonable Point at Poipu, which you could enjoy, trade in DEx. A bonus would be that it appears that Point at Poipu can trade in BOTH RCI and II.
Not that I would ever upgrade my DRI points to Max but there are plenty of people who don't care in the slightest for HGVC.Not sure why anyone in DRI would buy MAX Just buy a resale at a true HGVC resort and get access to HGVC.
those folks are probably not interested in max then =Dthere are plenty of people who don't care in the slightest for HGVC.
Most likely though the HVC sales reps also push the Hilton Honors aspect of Max very hard. Some push that part even harder than the HGVC part. What I find most interesting is how at my last update at the DBR (Daytona Beach Regency), the sales folk weren't even pushing Max, directly. They were actually trying to sell deeded weeks at HGVC resorts from a Diamond resort (which would include Max if purchased).those folks are probably not interested in max then =D
To be fair, they wouldn't offer you hundreds of dollars and/or other gifts if they weren't going to try and sell you something. What I found consistently true at all "owners updates" (aka. sales presentations), they will always try to sell you something. Now, what they try sell you and the reason why will probably be different.
