If someone purchased an RCI extra vacation, could they several months later purchase a 5 year guest certificate and then link it to the extra vacation that they purchased several months before?

My situation: A relative is going to purchase for me an RCI extra vacation (this month) but I would like to be able to purchase the 5 year guest certificate shortly prior to travel time (12/2008) in order to be able to get the maximum usage of the 5 year guest certificate.

Any info. would be really appreciated.

Thank you

A guest certificate can be purchased at any time before travel. I was not aware that guest certificates were valid for up to 5 years.

That is OK.

shortly prior to travel time (12/2008) in order to be able to get the maximum usage of the 5 year guest certificate.

This is the part that has me befuddled as to your question. When an extra vacation is purchased, there is a limit as to the amount of time that you can cancel without losing all of the money paid for the extra vacation. RCI generally has about a 24 hour limit after reservation before penalties are levied if cancelled. And it gets to 100% pretty far out. If you don't use the guest certificate for the extra vacation, then your relative would lose all the money that they paid for the extra vacation AND the guest certificate would expire along with the extra vacation.

So, are you saying that you DON'T plan to use the extra vacation, but want to use the guest certificate for something else? If so, your relative could purchase a guest certificate for a specific deposit for which you could choose your own vacation.

i think she means having someone put her on their account so she can take advantage of purchasing " last call and xtra vacations"(or whatever rci calls them)

Thanks for the info.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. I meant that I would like to purchase the guest certificate that is good for 5 years (I blieve it costs approx. $150US) in 12/2008, so that I can use it for a full 5 years from 12/2008 onwards vs. if I purchased it now (would give me five years of guest certificates for last calls and EV purchased beginning 2/2008).

Thanks again for the info.

I wouldn't think that would be a problem. I bought the five year guest certificate for my parents and they were able to use it the same day.

You can add a regular guest certificate at any time after a reservation is made, so I wouldn't think the 5 year one would work any different.
