Looking at buying resale in south carolina now but who would all of you recommend and who would you avoid? Worried that some "agents" are really not that honest. Some have some bad ratings on the BBB site. Curious who you have done business with and like.

Thanks! Ted

There are two lists of sellers at the top of the Buying Selling Renting Board - one is a rating system, and one is a list of sellers recommended by Tuggers. That's a good place to start.

Of course, the cheapest place is ebay!

not sure who I would trust. I know of a situation where a buyer and seller's name were both on a resale broker's contract, yet the seller knew nothing about it.

I had a very good experience purchasing a Marriott timeshare through Jessica Burke at www.timesharing2000.com . She was very professional, I got a great deal, and the closing was prompt and accurate. You can't ask for much more than that. She specializes in Marriott timeshares and is willing to work to try and find you a good deal.

Steve

Like Steve, I bought one of my timeshares from Timesharing2000. The other resale I purchased was from Seth Nock. Both sales were Marriott Hilton Head timeshares. All phone calls and emails were answered promptly and I highly recommend them both.

Hi Ted, I would defiantly go to a reseller that has been recommended by fellow Tuggers. Unfortunately when you enter this world there are many Timeshare companies that are out to scam you.

Hilton Head Timeshare Resales

We bought our Marriott timeshare weeks from Hilton Head Timeshare Resales. We picked up a brochure while we were on vacation and made an appointment. The person that we dealt with (Deborah) is no longer at the company but I believe they are still doing business. We were newbies (and still are) and she was very helpful and honest.

Ted,

Don't also over look the fact that you can buy directly from a seller without a broker. Look at the Tug classified boards and also post what you are looking for there. Then all you need to do is agree on a price and find an escrow company that handles timeshares. There are many reputable timeshare escrow companies that are also recommended on this board. It is not complicated and the escrow company can help you with this.

Thanks everyone for sharing. Please keep your references coming!

I am looking into buying direct from sellers as well but those are harder to find especially in south carolina. Seems like everyone is going with an agent.

Another question - checking out agents we see have listings but we can't find them on the Better Business Bureau's website. Should we worry?

Thanks again! I am checking out your recommendations as we speak!

We also purchased from Hilton Head Timeshare Resales. It was about 10 years ago but we needed some information and spoke to the owner Steve just a few months ago.

I also had a positive experience with my Grande Ocean purchase with Michelle Donato.

I used attorney Daniel Zwerner to close (see this post). A very pleasant and quick experience overall.

I'd do it that way again w/o any hesitation.

Hi Ted... Ted here:

We are hopefully a few weeks away from getting final paperwork from Marriott. We used Michelle Donato from GMAC (TimeShareResaleUSA)

http://www.gmacrealestate.com/find/...-Resales,-USA,-Inc.-Orlando-Michelle -Donato/

and so far, all has been handled very well. I will post back once we receive all paperwork to give the green light.

Good luck!

I am working with Michelle Donato also, and really like her (thanks flyerbob for the referral). Of course, if you are looking for the same thing I AM LOOKING FOR, then don't go with Michelle, because she is terrible;) wink wink!

No, just kidding.

I do however have a pretty lousy resale experience to recount (gee, me a lousy experience buying, no, I must be kidding right?) I could name names, but not sure if I am allowed to on this forum. If you want a company in HHI NOT to use, PM me and I will let you know.

I see that you submitted their name to Brian for rating purposes... at TUGBBB - Ratings of Timeshare Related Businesses. Thanks

LSUTiger tell me more about the closing process. I have never heard of Advantagevacation based in Hawaii?

I agree with Steve and Susan's recommendations above. Jessica from timesharing2000.com and Shelley from transactionrealty.com are both terrific to work with!

We purchased our Newport Coast unit from Shelley at www.transactionrealty.com a couple of years ago and had an excellent experience. She was very helpful - answered lots of newbie questions, was very patient, and kept us informed of the progress of our purchase.

Good luck!

Just had a good experience with two purchases on Ebay from the same company. One of the units was at MGV and the other at MGO. Both units were owned by VI Network, Inc and closed by Timeshare Closing Services, Inc. The companies are both located in Orlando.

They were very prompt and professional and I found their customer service to be excellent. They did title searches to make sure that there were no liens or mortgages and they recorded both deeds promptly.

Great Experience

LSUTiger tell me more about the closing process. I have never heard of Advantagevacation based in Hawaii?

We also used Advantage Vacations for our purchase at the kauai Beach Club.
The closing was done by Kelly Robinson at Quality Timeshare Closing.
The sellers title was clouded and both Syed and Kelly worked very hard to clear the title and close the sale. In the end a very good experience. Closed at the end of July and was recognized by Marriott 2 weeks later.

Kelly: kelly@qtclosings.com

Syed: syed@advantagevacation.com

Do various brokers have access to specific listings or is it like MLS where everyone can see the same stuff?

The same unit may be listed privately on various sites and offered by several brokers, so it is a looser system even then MLS.

Syed handdled the sale.
Quality Timshare sent us the documents which we had signed with a notary and returned. We wired the money. It went to closing. It was recorded by the county. Quality sent the document to Marriott. Marriott sent us a welcome letter. I had already seen the property show up on the owners website a few day prior to getting a welcome letter from Marriott and booked the usage.
Easy as that. No problems. From an email to Syed about the sale to booking was about 5-6 weeks.

Third the suggestion for Michelle Donato. I didn't end up buying through her but she was very helpful, and shared her knowledge freely, nonetheless.
