We will be in Cancun next week and I would like to bring back one of those lovely pottery sinks. What is the safest and best way to get it home? It would be a little akward putting it in a carry on if not impossible.

And where is the best place to purchase one?

Thanks
Jolie

Sinks

The stores called Plaza La Fiesta have these sinks available. There is one at La Isla Shopping Plaza and another across the street from the Plaza Caracol. They will ship them home for you, the shipping cost is about the same price as the retail cost. I have also seen them at Market 28, and a little factory store on Ave. Coba. They come in many different sizes and colors and even have matching ceramic tile accent accessories, ie. towel bars, and soap dishes.

Lot's of hits on the web.

Are these the sinks you speak of? You may just be able to buy them online.

They are beautiful and now I have a theme for the master bath redo.

Yes these are the sinks I am talking about. I read on one of the sites that when you order an item it probably wont be the same item that you receive. But thanks.

Now that you metion redoing the masterbath, I have been wanting to redo my husbands bath. You just gave me a great idea. You may just created a monster.:hysterical:

Thanks again,
jolie

I would be interested in more info about those sinks too! They look great! I sa some on Ebay listed at about $50-75 with reatil price of $250-300. What would be a good price for ones directly from those shops in Mexico??
Thanks

I remember those sinks, they were gorgeous! If only they'd go with my decor I would have scooped one up! However, next year when my hubby retires he is planning on building a unique potting shed behind our house. Nothing from Menards or Lowes! Wouldn't a Mexican sink look perfect in there!!!

I bought one in Puerto Vallarta. I just put it in my suitcase- duffle type with wheels- put clothes in bottom, - filled it with items-then wrapped more clothes around it- the suitcase was tightly packed- no way it could shake around-- and it came through just fine. Just make sure it is in the middle of the suitcase- and lots of clothes tightly around it- I knew of another family taht brought back 3- they bought rolling suitecases in P.V.- took them to the vendor and he packed them very tightly- and brought them as luggage.= good luck- rlb

I'm a huge fan of talavera and "Mexicolor" decor. I have a his and hers sink set of the drop-in kind. I also did talavera tiling in my current kitchen and my house I'm rehabbing is getting my talavera treatment, but different of course. I love playing with all the design options and colors! I even bought a hammered copper sink for my kitchen from Mexico. A bonus to all this is...prices are reasonable, even factoring in shipping. And you're providing jobs for Mexicans *in Mexico*. My fave eBay seller of talavera is actually in Laredo TX so shipping is less. Search eBay for seller "realweb68" and check out Victor's sinks...beautiful. And you will get exactly what is pictured there.

P.S. Btw the house address talavera tiles are alot of fun...I've bought them for two houses...and I also got a few other cool things from this site...may as well provide link since I just went on eBay to msg Victor to see if they make bullnose tiles. That I've never seen online...yet. http://stores.ebay.com/Mexican-Tiles-Copper-Ceramic-Sinks

I used the tiles around the front of my fireplace - looked great!

We just returned from Cancun tonight. I am glad I posted the question, I never thought of looking on E-Bay.

Well, I did not return with a sink. Couldn't find that "one" that did it for me. And even if I would have found it, the hagling with the merchants drove me insane!!!!!! And the vendors prices were WAY over the prices on E-Bay!!!!

Thanks for the link. After some rest from the "vacation" I will start looking for the "one." and post my reviews

I understand about finding "the one." Mexican art is so varied, and each one of us has an idea in our head of the exact one item we want. A few years ago I wanted to purchase a Mazatlán Sun. They come in many designs, some happy, some somber, some scary. There are "folk art" suns, and more fancy looking ones. Some have countryside scenes within them. They are also different shapes and colors. I had a fairly good idea of what I wanted. I went into a shop which had nothing but suns, over five hundred of them. Guess what? It didn't have mine. I looked in every shop I went into for six days before I found the one I wanted, and I know the town good enough to know where to look.

So good luck with your search, and don't give up until you find the right one.

Sink from Playa Del Carmen

I purchased a sink last year for aprox. $32 and had it wraped well and put it in a second carry on bag we always take with us in our luggage. Then just carried it back on the plane.

I bought one in Nogales a couple years ago and I think I paid about $50-$60 for it. It was one of the larger and more expensive ones. We saw a lot of others for less but didn't like them as well. Unfortunately, I did the measuring and measured wrong so haven't been able to use it. Oh well, I will save it for my dream retirement house in TN. It is only about 10 - 15 years away. Debby
