Branson, Where do you fly to from SFO?

My family is going to Branson this summer (June) and I have been looking for the most direct flight available. It seems that to get the least amount of flights I can go from SFO to Springfield, MO. Via one stop at either Dallas, St. Louis or Denver. Rates are outrageous. I have also checked out of Oakland, CA. I am also contemplating flying to St. Louis and driving to Branson. I have driving, esepecially 4 or more hours.

Anyone have any other suggestions?

My mom lives with my sister in Ozark, MO, which is between Springfield and Branson. From Oakland she flies through Denver to Springfield. When we booked her latest flight it was quite expensive. We haven't looked at other options since she's dependant on someone taking her, and picking her up, from the Springfield airport.

I believe the closest airport is Tulsa, OK. Kansas City is another option and I believe Little Rock, AK is about the same. Out of SFO I wouldn't be surprised i you coudn't find a direct flight to MCI (Kansas City, MO) at a reasonable fare. I'm pretty sure Southwest flies direct to MCI and Midwest Airlines might have direct flights as well. I think the drive time from MCI will be around 3.5 hours.

Southwest does not fly direct to Kansas City. They have one, or two, stops. My dd flew to Kansas City last year. While it was cheaper than flying to Springfield, there were no direct flights. I think we looked at both Oakland and San Francisco.

Getting here is our most effective method of crowd control. :D

But, it has not slowed down all of the development.

If you can get to Vegas, there are inexpensive flights from there to Springfield.

Allegiant Air.

A new Branson airport is under construction. I believe it will be able to handle 1 million passengers a year.

You will have a scenic drive. :D

Put in your reservation for Thanksgiving Dinner early. That is the first place to fill up.

We got reservations for Big Cedar Wilderness Lodge for Thanksgiving week 2008 and we looked at flights from Sacramento. We finally decided to fly into Little Rock and rent a car there.

You're right. the only non-stop into Kansas City out of SFO that I find would be on Midwest airlines.

I think that you can fly to Tulsa on Southwest. Should be cheaper than flying to Springfield. Closer than KC. Northwest Arkansas Regional (XNA) is closer but may be as expensive as Springfield.

I guess it depends on whether you'd rather pay more in airfare and get closer to Branson, or pay less and spend the money in the gas to drive.

Thanks for all your tips to other airports. I would like to fly as close as possible and cheap as possible. I do have two free tickets on Southwest so that will help. I really just like to get really as close as possible without being too expensive. I will see how far the other suggested airports are.

If you decide to eat at Big Cedar, call Devil Pools Restaurant the first of September or maybe just before that, don't remember. I think that's about when they start taking reservations for guests staying on property only. Be sure to mention you are staying on property. It is a buffet costs about $28. per person. If you take the T/S tour they will give you $100 in Big Cedar Bucks which you can use to pay for your meals.

Check Southwest flight 3067 out of Oakland. It shows a nonstop every day but Saturday. It leaves around 6:30 am and arrives around noon.

Thank you for all the ideas. So here is what I have gathered so far and what I still need.

I can arrive within 3-3.5 hours drive at:
Kansas City, MO
Tulsa, OK
St. Louis, MO
Little Rock, AR

What has the best highway?

What about Little Rock, bad road? twisty?

KC, Tulsa, SL: Big road
LR: Some big road, some twisty Ozark 2-lane
