Hi,

I bought a timeshare and now want to sign up for II.

I already got the contract number from the resort via email so I think that would be enough to sign up.
However I did not receive the welcome letter via postal mail yet (and it will take a while as I am living in germany).
So I wonder if it is worth to wait for the welcome letter (as there might be some special sign up offer?) or just sign up straight away?

All you need is your resort/unit information. Call Interval and ask to join and give them the information. If they can 'see' your unit, you can sign up. If not, it may take a few days while they contact your resort. Don't wait for papers....just need the full ownership information (unit number, week, code etc...). There is almost always some special deal (two years for $XXX) running, so try to get a discount. Currently they are offering 3 years or 5 years membership for discount. If you are eligible for a discount from the purchase, it will probably show up when they open your account (???).
cheers.

I'd say the best time to join an exchange company is when they're having a sale ;)

But if you need to exchange in the near future then join as soon as you can.

I think most of the sales involve renewing memberships or resort sponsored stuff. I'm not sure about that. IF you're keen on deposit early and placing an OGS, I'd grab the current discount for multiple years and move on. Depends on how likely you are to deposit and exchange?

@taterhed: Hm, that looks like the normal II offering

@VegasBella: Theroretically I am not so much in a hurry (the earlier, the better obviously but I do not have a deposit right now anyhow). Is there some rule of thumb when that could be in the year?

Membership promotions that arent available to everyone are generally specific to the resort you own. Best thing to do is to call II, tell them where you own and that you are thinking of joining. Ask if there are any special offers available to you and then decide to join or not.

I wouldn't sign up until a) you are needing to deposit a unit, b) wanting to try to make an exchange, or c) want to book a getaway. The expiration date of your membership is based on when you sign up. No need to sign up earlier than you have to. An example would be if your first year of use isn't until 2017 and you want to reserve a fall week, no need to sign up now if you can only deposit 12 months out.
