Are using Safari or Firefox? DH has the white Mac also. He says

If it's Safari or Firefox it is Apple key (to the left of the spacebar) and left bracket key ([ ) together

To get back to normal size click the green dot at the top left of the window.

I bought a my first Mac this past June. I'm finding that the [Delete] key really acts like a [BackSpace] key -- including going back to previous pages in the Safari browser.

Can't offer any help on the font size.

The delete key above \ is the same as backspace.

By page back, do you mean on the net? Use the left arrow at the top left of your browser, under the red yellow and green buttons.

To enlarge the text in an internet window, hit apple/+. To go smaller, use apple/- (the apple key is often called the command key; hold the apple key in like you would the shift key)

WOW!! you guys are the best!! any other tidbits of information on the MACBOOK greatly appreciated. can't seem to find the answers in the manual i was given, so how did you learn out these things? do they have a "MACBOOK FOR DUMMIES?"

I don't know which Bookmarks Bar you are refering to, but in Safari, you can right click on it and the "delete" choice will happen. If you don't have a mouse, click and hold, dragging it to the trash can on the bottom.

If you want to set up your mouse (or the pad that replaces it on a macbook, I assume) look under the blue apple at the top of your screen. You'll find "system preferences." In system preferences you'll find "keyboard and mouse" controls. There you can set up your mouse--control the speed, set it up to right click, use the side buttons--make it do whatever you are comfortable with. Again, my guess is that you can control the macbook pad as well.

Play around in system preferences to see how you want to personalize your setup. You really can't do any harm by playing and are able to undo anything you don't like.

Have you played with Photo Booth yet? You can take pictures of yourself as you sit in front of the computer, then fool around with the different settings. It's fun.

Enjoy your new toy.

There are Macs for Dummies books - I don't like them as they are so cluttered. Google is a good source; just put in a search for something like Mac tips or Mac tricks. Also feel free to PM me - I've been using Macs since the day they came out in January 1984!

To remove something from the bookmarks bar in Safari, just drag it down and poof it will disappear. To drag, put your pointer on it, hold in the mouse button or trackpad button, drive down and then let go.

Other cool stuff......related to Macs in general, not just the MacBook and not any specific application:

apple/shift/3 will take a "screen snapshot" of whatever is showing - great way to keep track of a confirmation of an online purchase, your airline itinerary, etc. This will produce a file called Picture 1 (or Picture 2, 3, etc) on the desktop. Double-clicking the picture file will open Preview.

Mac grammar is "object first, verb second" - i.e. first point to or select the object (text, icon, etc), then indicate the action (delete, bold, etc).

To select a large chunk of info, click at the beginning, let go of the mouse button and move down to the end, then hold in the shift key and click again. Everything between the click and shift/click is now selected and can be moved, copied, deleted, underlined, or whatever.

To save a .PDF file (portable document format) that anyone can open and read regardless of computer type or software, go to the file menu and choose print, then at the bottom left of the print window choose PDF and choose Save As PDF. This will not produce an editable file, but is great for sending something formatted to someone else, or posting it online, without having to worry about the formatting getting messed up. The .PDF file is like an image (or print) of the original.

There's so much more cool stuff....maybe I'll add to the list as I think of it.

A few other tricks:

apple [ will take you a page back

apple ] will take you a page forward

apple page up arrow will jump to the top of the page

apple page down arrow jump to the bottom of the page
