Bought into HVC/ Add HGVC resale?

Hello—We bought retail HVC points at a low level. I already have an EOY Raintree Vacation Club unit in Mexico that I can book and reassign to HVC that will roll into our points to essentially double our points those years. I wondered if buying an EOY HGVC resale for the alternate years would also combine points in this fashion? Would there be any benefits or synergies to an owner to having both a HGVC resale unit and the HVC club points or would these be totally separate? Trying to figure out both systems and how they intertwine—especially when looking at adding a resale to existing points.

The systems are basically completely separate. In resale 100%, in retail there is the Max cross booking, but I don't know if it's easy to combine points - I think you can only do so at 7 months out.
