In the info below, it says access to the observation tower is limited to 8 people a day at 2:00 only and you need to make reservations well ahead of time. Is this true for guests staying at Marriott Customs House as well?

"Customs House Observation Deck Tours

Timing is everything when visiting this venue, as the 26th-floor observation deck is only open once daily (at 2:00 pm 6 days a week with the exception of Fridays), and weather permitting, so its a bit of a roulette play. But well worth it if the stars align for you.

Registration is required 48 hours in advance by calling 617-310-6300 (x4 - front desk). No back packs are allowed, and there are now only 8 people allowed per reservation."

No - that's for access for outsiders. When we were there last fall, we saw people turned away and they were told that the reservations list fills up way out.

No - you just get on the elevator and go! But you can sign up for an interesting guided building tour if you wish.

View from the top of the observation deck at night - it's magnificent, a cell phone picture really doesn't do it justice:

We were there last week and I didn't see hours of operation for the Observation Deck so I was wondering if it was open 24 hours. I meant to ask but didn't. We went up there every night for sunset.

On our past stays we just went up there, don't recall it was opened/closed at any time period. My favorite time was in the evening with lightening storms off in the distance, great show!

I also second the guided tours offered for both the area and the hotel!
