Let's say you deposit current year's 81,000 for an exchange into another Westin property. If you need a unit that requires more points, can you borrow from future year allotment? Are you able to bank unused points that you can use in the future?

You can borrow from you next years staroptions but then your restricted to reserving a room within a 90 day period (and pay the future years maint.).This makes it tough to get most popular resorts/seasons.Staroptions cannot be banked you may deposit with II or trade to starpoints(hotel use).

Only full weeks can be deposited with exchange companies or converted to Starpoints, so if you have a few Staroptions leftover, you have to use them or lose them. Some people add them to a week or use them for a weekend.

Thanks for your replies. So basically, you need to buy enough points to get the unit you require. For us, that will be a 2 bdrm unit into Maui or one of the ski resorts during ski season. I was looking at purchasing 81,000 points contract at either Westin Kierland or VV for mainly trading within Starwood, that's not sounding like a good idea anymore.

It's not - you need 148,100 for any 2 bdm. at the Maui resorts. Unfortunately - you could still end up with a highway view during peak season.

If you want Maui and Skiing, a good option for you would be two, every-other-year, 2-bdms. One on Maui and one at a Ski resort in high season. (Maui doesn't have seasons.)
