Borrowed points question

Hello!
Again, I need to glean from your insight and experience...we currently several reservations to piecemeal our trip next month, and they have been changed a number of times to get a more desirable unit, modify dates, etc.

In one of the reservations, we borrowed some 2014 points in order to reserve it...and then we must have subsequently changed another reservation that must have previously been reserved with only 2013 points. Now, I have points borrowed from 2014, but have a few hundred points still left over in 2013 (on the most recent reservation change b/c it took fewer points). I thought that the change would just release points back into 2014, but now I have leftover points in 2013 and borrowed points in 2014. Sorry, I can't explain it any better.

Anyway, I will call the reservation center tomorrow to see if they can help....has anyone experienced this before? thanks!

I have experienced this and the rep was able to switch the points usage on my reservations. I do not know if it was a one time courtesy or common practice. Call multiple times if you need to and hopefully get an accommodating and experienced rep. Or ask for a supervisor if they need to override the system. Good luck

HGVC counselor was able to cancel my reservation and rebook it with remaining 2013 points, with the disclaimer that my reservation could have been lost in the process. I was sweating bullets for the few minutes I was on hold. In hindsight, I'm not sure if the few hundred 2013 points was worth that risk, but thankful that she was able to do it successfully. Emi, did they cancel and rebook your ressie or were they able to just move the points around?

I'm breathing a huge sigh of relief...and happy that I don't have to worry about what to do with the straggly points!

I have the same problem. In the beginning, I had borrowed 2013 points of 13,770 and 2013 remaining points of 7,000. In 2014, I had 7,000 borrowed points. So I did a lots of cancellation and some rebooking. Now my borrowed points remain the same for 2013 while points remaining is 16,570. I thought that I corrected the 2014 reservations to make the points borrowed to be 7,000 (the 7,000 should be from 2013 cancelled reservation) and remaining points to be 0, while my 2015 point borrowed is -21,200. I called the consular, telling them I was all confused with it. I thought if I cancel a reservation, it will return the borrow points to the borrowed year. I do not understand why my 2013 has has 13,770 borrowed and 16,570 remaining. I thought that I can return the 7000 points to 2014 and not to borrow 21.2k from 2015 yet. They told me that they will do an audit to trace the points and email me the answer. They said it was a complicated procedure. I kind of thinking the system massed up something if this happened not only to me. I do not know when could they send me the audit result. I am not going to make any more reservation to make things worse.

Glad it worked out for you. Since you reminded me, I recall being nervous while they adjust it so I believe they had to cancel it first. I have been told thru interaction with various reps that inventory on their system does not go back to availability immediately. Not positive this is true and there seem to be constant changes to their system.

Some years I have lots of points to play with and I've been in this situation several times. You would think they could improve the system to always use the oldest points and adjust each time reservations on the account change. But No, it doesn't work that way and they have no interest in changing it.

I've called and had it adjusted without a comment (maybe did the cancel/rebook without telling me), and I've called and been told that the cancel/rebook was required and based on how busy everything was, it was probably not a good idea.

I just wish they would change the software to take care of this issue. I have lost "leftover points" because I wasn't willing to risk a reservation.
