DD would like to take her husband on a 4 night trip to Bordeaux.

They are in Venice with the Army.

Any ideas how to work the Marriott/SPG group for this trip?

Nevermind, I couldn't find Marriott, SPG or Hilton. So I went to Rick Steves to see what he had to say. . .

"Bordeaux must mean boredom in some ancient language. If I were offered a free trip to that town, I’d stay home and clean the fridge. Connoisseurs visit for the wine, and there’s a wine-tourist information bureau in Bordeaux which, for a price, will bus you out of town into the more interesting wine country nearby."

She also asked about Scotland. I'll look at that now.

You don't mention when they are thinking of visiting Scotland.
For just 4 days, Edinburgh is a wonderful city, with plenty to see and do with perhaps a trip/stay in Loch Lomond/The Trossachs?

If they did plan to visit the beautiful highlands, Autumn (October) is a great time. They might want to miss high Summer anyway when the midges are at their peak.

There's a very nice new Intercontinental (IHG/ Priority Club) hotel there.
Expensive but amazing Wine and Food. Old Chateaux.
No idea who Rick Steves is but if Bordeaux got as far as getting on your list in the first place then it sounds like you and he have different tastes.
It's the original wine tourism destination (think Napa times 1000) .... if you think Napa Valley, visit sounds boring then you'll probably agree with Rick Steves about Bordeaux but if not then ignore it.

Rick Steves is sometimes a funny guy. I can only recall one instance where I took his advice and regretted it, numerous times where for one reason or another I did not take or was not able to take his advice and then regretted it. Scotland was a good trip for my wife and I, lots to see. Happen to be wearing the sweater I picked up at the "Old Course" in St. Andrews. No, I'm not a golfer but the town is just beautiful and very memorable.

OK If you 're asking about being in Venice Well lets talk.

You want to stay in the heart of Venice, which means one of the starwood hotels,

We have stayed in the Europa twice and loved it. It is close to St Marcos Square but also far enough away that it isn't so close to be ultra expensive, The hotel is just right.

The big thing about Venice is to visit take a boat taxi to the hotel the first time, it it's worth it.

The whole thing with Venice how close you can be to the center of Venice. Which means St Marcos or The Rialto There are lots of other areas which are nice BUT nothing is like those two areas

Hope this helps
