Booking weeks at 13 months

I consecutive booked the last week of silver at Barony and the first week of Gold at Grande Ocean this Spring. But for reasons unclear to me, I had to do it by phone -- the Marriott person working with me said I could not do it online by myself. I'm guessing it's a system problem of making sure both weeks are available before letting the booking begin.

You would have to be within the 12 month window for the second week to book it online.

It isn't a system problem, it has been this way since the inception of the 13-month weeks booking rules.

Maybe I shouldn't share my secrets... Now I have to compete with you for a July 4th OP reservation! ;)
Do you know if having a fixed week helps with securing a booking at the 13 month mark with other resort weeks in the same season? I'm thinking of purchasing another MVC resale week (same season) to take advantage of the 13 month priority booking.

Season is irrelevant. What matters is that the weeks can be booked consecutively or concurrently. This may not necessarily be the same season at two different resorts. I have seen reports of where people have been able to use a true fixed week (these are rare) to then add on another reservation at 13 months. Fixed week/fixed unit are automatically reserved at 18 months.

I too have seen discussion of those with a true fixed week such as Monarch or HP being able to take advantage of the 13 month option but I can't say it'll always work out. Early on we were told it was not an option when the 13 month option came on board. Whether we were told incorrectly, rules have changed or there is just variability in enforcement are questions I can't answer. OTOH if it's a villa tied to a specific week or even with variable start dates such as Holiday or Plus weeks, the 13 month option is a definite doable. Many of us have bought trading weeks largely to combine to use the 13 month window.

Thank you for the helpful response. I recently purchased a fixed week 26 at Newport Coast Villas. I was told that all I needed to do was inform MVC which day (Fri, Sat, Sun) I wanted to start the week. I did not know this week would be automatically reserved at 18 months.

As I noted above, that is not a true fixed week as you do have to make a reservation and to my knowledge, you are limited to the reservation requirements of 12/13 months.

Marriott has holiday weeks in their floating week system. These are often major holidays like 4th of July, Christmas, New Year, Presidents Week. These are still floating weeks because the checkin day is variable and you have to call in or go online to make a reservation for the desired checkin date. These can still only be reserved at 13/12 months and not 8 months.

I understand now. I guess the term verbiage of "fixed week" on my contract got me a little confused. I appreciate the clarification that my Platinum Plus week 26 is not a true fixed week.

That said (and to get back to your original question), your 'fixed' week 26 does give you an advantage in that your subsequent consecutive weeks are only competing against other owners who successfully booked July 4th week. I have read (though cannot confirm through experience), that this is particularly useful at Marriott's Newport Coast.

Thank you for your response to my question and providing me this tip.

My apologies if this question is in the wrong thread: If I own a one week lock-off - I can book at 12 months out - if I lock-off, will I be able to book the 1BR at 12 months and book the Studio (lock-off) for the immediate following consecutive week even though that would be 12 months plus one week?

I don't believe you can do that.

My understanding is that booking floating weeks concurrently or consecutively more than 12 months in advance, up to 13 months, requires those weeks to be from different deeds (which don't have to be at the same MVC resort). Lock-off portions from the same deed do not count.

As long as you book concurrently or consecutively, you can in the even years.
So just to confirm, even though I own weeks in 2 different locations platinum. I can call in at the 13 month to book Christmas weeks in both locations?

Yes.

It has nothing to do with the season but rather which weeks can be booked. If you can book each of those weeks at Christmas by themselves at 12 months out, you can book them both together at 13 months out which might also include more than 2 units or weeks due to lock off's. Note that a single unit locked off cannot be booked at 13 months out by itself.
