Booking Hilton weeks to rent them

I am trying to help a friend with advice - he owns platinum Hilton weeks in Orlando and NY, and has VIP status with Hilton. He wants to rent his weeks since he cannot use them all. Are there certain seasons and properties within the Hilton network that yield higher rental income? Is he allowed to rent an internal exchange into another Hilton property? I am thinking Orlando rentals are not that popular, so maybe he can book another Hilton property with his points. And does his VIP / Diamonds Club status help him get any sort of priority with booking?

Any insight would be appreciated. :cheer:

Adriana,

The club rules do forbid the rental of a reservation, however I believe it has been done with some level of frequency. I'm not sure how to advise your friend here on what the best path is.

I hope all is well with you!

Oops I dis not realize that, thanks both for the response. I thought they were like Starwood - which allows rental of internal SVN exchanges!

Now he owns the New York Hilton 57th St. Property - I assume the best time to book is the winter holidays?

Hilton rules only allows owners to rent their Home Resort Reservation.

I would not presume to correct Seth, but I think he meant "Home Week" reservations.
Rental of a "Home Resort" reservation at W.57th St. is questionable.
-- Members Guide, p.162 (Commercial Use) prohibits rental other than a "home week."

However, many members do rent weeks outside this limitation with no consequences.
Whether your "friend" would ever be called out on it depends, I 'spose, on his karma.

Does this mean HGVC will issue a guest certificate only for a home resort/week stay? Not for club reservations?

No. Guest certificates will be issued for any booking.
But for club reservation, they are 'sposed to be used only for...
"members' immediate family, and guests personally known and acquainted with members."

He's a friend. Nevemind that he's paying me $xxx to be my friend."

Elite/Diamond member can book any HGVC resorts at 12 months out while others can book 9 months out.
Also, Elite members are eligible to reserve new Myrtle Beach location.
Maybe summer Myrtle Beach week or Hawaii week will get more interests.
NYC is tough, because not many people want whole week at W.57th.

I don't understand....why do you keep saying this? Are you a HGVC elite Premier member with HHonors Diamond status?

Seth corrected you before. See this Dec 2010 post - http://tugbbs.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1029436&postcount=5

OK, I will correct my post above:
All Club Intrawest and Fiesta Americana resorts have elite benefit - 12 months booking window.
I don't think it is just a "handful of new resorts" like Seth said.

Also, Elite members can reserve new Myrtle Beach location (Anderson Beach Club).

Talent, thanks for your clarification. I had not understood the guidelines correctly.

You can also book the Grand Mayan a year out with Elite status. Having said that, while I enjoy the Hilton resorts, they really don't do enough to justify Elite status. There should be more to it.

If you want to book a Grand Mayan resort, I can get you a membership with SFX and they can book the reservation for you. They often have more availability.

I have points in platinum season, my guess I need to book a week in platinum season and then advertise it under rent. My home week is any weeks in the platinum season right?

Yes, it's the specific home week that you own. For instance, if you have a floating platinum week in a two bedroom from saturday to saturday, that's what you can book to rent. If that's your ownership you can't rent out a one bedroom from Thursday to Thursday.
