Has anyone booked a hotel recently using Abound Points for a family member. I was first told to just book online, then just go back and edit Guest Information. I was able to book a room in Rome with no problem for my daugher for her honeymoon! Well, then it wound not let me change Guest information at all. Called back and was told I needed to fill out a form, which he would email to me for me to just fill out my daughter's information and send it back, no problem. Well after a week of not receiving the form, I called back again. Now I'm told they dont do forms anymore and that I had to put my daugher's name on the reservation at the time I booked it. And I am being told the only way to put her name on now is to cancel the reservation and rebook!! I will not cancel as I know once cancelled all those points go into a holding account and I am taking a chance that this hotel would not be available!! All I want to do is keep this reservation and either put it in her name or add her as a guest. I have spoken to two supervisors who are telling me the same thing, that I have to cancel first I refuse to cancel and insisted they figure out a way to do this. Have a supervisor calling me back tomorrow. Anyone have a similar situation? I would really appreciate any suggestions out there. If she doesnt just add her name on tomorrow, my next step is to call the hotel in Italy and try to explain situation to them. Thanks!

If you have any Marriott Hotel Bonvoy status I would call them and ask them to add your daughter's name to the reservation. If that doesn't work I would call the hotel.

Try using the MVC chat and see if they can help.
Type agent to get a human.
I find chat advisors can be better/more knowledgeable since they have files they can cut and paste from. It’s also, just sometimes easier to explain in writing.
Lucky Daughter!

If Chat still fails, Try changing the name on the Marriott.com side. I assume they gave you a conf#.

You can’t change the name on the Marriott site anymore. It’s locked out once there is a Bonvoy number on the reservation

If you have any Marriott Hotel Bonvoy status I would call them and ask them to add your daughter's name to the reservation. If that doesn't work I would call the hotel.
The problem is that hotels booked with club points are third party bookings. Bonvoy won’t be able to help.

The Bonvoy number is locked but the name is not.
Can you elaborate on this? I have 10 reservations currently in my account (both MVC and hotel), and I can't change the name on any of them. Is there some workaround you know of or Ami doing something wrong?

Thank you all for your suggestions. I am pretty upset with this whole new system and wanted to share with you all. Now again, this is making a hotel reservation using Abound Points, and MVC is using a third party to do this, Hopper.

My husband is a Lifetime Titanium Elite member and called Marriott to just add our daughter's name on this reservation. First, it wasn't listed on his account because Hopper (their 3rd party now) is not able to add the reservation onto your Bonvoy account. But he was able to assist my husband and added this confirmation number to his Bonvoy Account. However, since this was made through a third party he was unable to add or change the name. My husband then asked for his supervisor and even he couldn't do anything about this. Apparently, our reservation was marked "restricted - booked through a 3rd party", so Marriott cannot touch it. And Hopper has strict rules in that only one name can be on the reservation. You cannot add a name or change a name once you make a reservation. The only way was to cancel the reservation and rebook and pray its still available. A supervisor at MVC took care of this for me, but I still think this whole system is unacceptable. So thinking ahead in the future, if our reservation is in only my husband's name and for some reason he can't go, then we have to cancel the reservation and hope we can get the same hotel and rebook in my name. In using Abound Points for a family member or friend, be sure to put it in their name.

I was given the wrong information twice by two different people. First to book in my husband's name, then go back and edit. Don't do that. Then they would mail me a form, but they stopped doing that now.

We both have Presidential Status, but only one name will be honored when booking a hotel.

As far as hotel reservations made with Bonvoy, I believe you can still just call Marriott and they will add or change a name for you.

Hope this all makes sense to you and helps you in your future plans. Thanks!

Marriott sucks.

And I also just read on my confirmation: "All Hotel reservations via Abound are not eligible to earn Bonvoy Points or MARRIOTT BENEFITS. Modifications to this reservation will require a cancellation and reserving a new hotel reservation based on availability."

This is crazy!! And when are they planning to tell us all this - or did I miss something along the way??

I’m guessing you didn’t get very good value for your Abound points either.

In any case congratulations and hope your daughter has a great honeymoon.

"Edit Guest"? I can change the guest name, just not the Bonvoy number once Bonvoy number has been added.

What type of reservation is this? How did you make the reservations? I just checked three reservations, one II, another using Club Points and another booked directly through Bonvoy online. I can't change the name on any of them.

II exchange. II has my name wrong and I have to correct my name for all of them.

I can’t change any of ours either.
Have II, direct, club pts reservations & one booked thru Chase travel portal (no surprise can’t change). All any will let me do is change address & phone number. Wont even let me add an alternate email.

Right now my account is all screwed up anyway with something they must of updated fairly recently.

Still have a t/s I rented out under my Bonvoy acct even though it has the renters name on it, wrong pts posting, changed primary person on Abound side even though Abound saw who it should’ve been, downgraded from titanium even though chairman level, and so on.

I’m pretty sure it’s something the Bonvoy side did recently because Abound still had everything correct & the same as always. Was told it’ll take 72hrs to fix so we’ll see if it gets done.

I've done that in the past, but the name field is grayed out for me now 100% of the the time. It looks like that's the case with others here too. Do you have a current reservation where you're able to change it or have you just done this in the past?

And I also just read on my confirmation…

Crazy certainly…but MVC hasn’t hidden the fact that the new ‘Hello Hotels’ is an abysmally, absurdly bad use of points (at least those which aren’t stuck in holding).

Or that to add insult to injury (and unlike the previous MVC Explorer Hotel program), Hello Hotels reservations are made by a third party so they aren’t eligible for Elite benefits.

I made a Bonvoy reservation for my SIL and called the hotel directly to change the guest's name. Somehow I see two reservations but they didn't take any additional points for the second. We called the hotel again and they had a name for the second reservation (can't remember it) and said it was linked to the original reservation. They told us all is good and that there is one handicap room reserved in my SIL name. I'm still concerned since that is not they way it shows in my husbands Bonvoy account. 🤞

On another MVC reservation for St. Kitts I had to reserve 9 nights and call to change to 7 nights. MVC show the correct dates and club points were refunded for the two extra nights. On the Bonvoy website it shows we are arriving two days earlier and staying for 9 nights.

...and why would a MVC salesperson tell you about the "finer points"????

I had alot of points that were going to expire so I was able to use them. But I do agree, using Abound Points for hotels does not seem to be a good move at all. But I'm sure it depends on the hotel. I haven't looked into any others and I don't plan on it.
