I know this isn’t a timeshare question but I am in a time crunch and would be very grateful if some who knows can answer-
1) can I use bonvoy points to book a reservation for someone else (my daughter) if I won’t be there?
2) if so, can I add a suite nights request to that reservation.
Thank you!

Yes, you can use Bonvoy Points to book for someone else; just put the reservation into her name. And, you should be able to use a suite night upgrade.

SNAs require the member to be staying themselves

Thank you both!
I had a break and finally figured out if I hit teams and conditions I would find the rules and did see I could put the points room in my daughters name.
Hadn‘t found the suite nights answer yet.
I appreciate your help.

I book under my name, and my dad checks in without problems (same surname). We have done this about 5 times. I have even earned points and gotten the check in bonus 4 out of 5 times. It is safer to call and add the correct name, though.

I think the answer is....

Yes. You can book a room for your daughter a room from your Bonvoy account. You just need to make sure you add her name to the reservation.

BUT. The Marriott hotel may ask or notice that you (the official owner of your Bonvoy account) did not check-in and are not staying with your daughter. As such, they 'may' choose to restrict any BonvoyGold/Plat/Titanium status incentives (breakfast/food credit, lounge access, room upgrade, etc). They may also remove your Bonvoy # from receiving night credits or pts from the stay.

For SNAs, the Ts&Cs are posted above. But, SNAs are generally given a few days in advance of check-in. Once that happens, that the room size/view tied to your reservation. While possible, it's unlikely that the front desk staff would remove that SNA at check-in. But...always possible I guess...based on the Ts&Cs...and how picky the hotel/resort is. Some follow the rules and Ts&Cs more than others. Some don't care at all.

Thanks.
I wasn’t looking to game the system at all I just couldn’t remember if it was ok to give a bonvoy points reservation to some one else. I’ve found the info now and I think I was remembering the free night certificates can’t be gifted.
I have made a cash reservation before and changed the name right online so I am set on how do handle this now.
