From a story on Boeing Starliner's extended space mission:

Like the premise of “Gilligan’s Island,” the Starliner’s NASA crewed mission was supposed to last only eight days, but turned into a seemingly indefinite stay. " - Source: Yahoo News

"So this is the tale of our castaways, there here for a long long time.
They'll have to make the best of things, it's an uphill climb." - Theme Song

Can't they pay to get a ride down on a Dragon Capsule or some working space vehicle?

Well, there were so many problems pre-launch it had been nicknamed the Calamity Capsule..

Seems like Boeing can't catch a break...

The leak discovered on the Starliner on,the launch pad. Under old NASA guidelines and control would have prohibited the launch into space of the Starliner. IMHO.

Really?

Same old same oid

It was an o - ring failure and the temperature.
This was reported by a NASA Engineer at Hampton, VA
The Contractor ENGINEERS said NO/GO (temperature was out of specification)
NASA Management was concerned about optics and overrode the engineers.

They do have a great view.

I was wrong, it was Morton Thiokol's management that brow beat their own engineers into submission from a NO/GO to an INCONCLUSIVE so Morton Thiokol management could report back to NASA a GO

Essentially, NASA and Morton Thiokol made sure the Challenger lifted off so that President Reagan could make a speech about it (he had nothing to do with the decision to launch). Of course, after the explosion witnessed by millions, his speechwriters went to work on his condolence speech for that evening.

Stuck Boeing Starliner Completes Thruster Testing on Orbit

The Boeing spacecraft was supposed to remain at the International Space Station for eight days but has seen its stay extended to nearly two months.

Meanwhile - everyone hates on Musk and Tesla/SpaceX. But what he has accomplished with SpaceX is tremendous.
I don't think everyone hates him. There is a large swath that thinks he is great.

Personally, I like SpaceX but dislike Musk. I really think at best Musk was a hype man for SpaceX and had very little to do with the running of the company (in recent years anyway) or the technology. Also, it's worth pointing out the unbelievably low bar Boeing has been setting for the past decade or so...

Musk is a clown...
A very rich clown, who somehow hired some smart people.

I am not as impressed with Musk's success with SpaceX as you are. When he was testing his ships in Texas, they were blowing up on launch (or, for safety, being blown up) left and right. So his "accomplishment" only came after a series of failures. If he had sent the two astronauts into space on the first try, they would not have survived.

There are no shortcuts to perfecting space travel. NASA experienced failures in attempting to go into space.
