Not too familiar with Bluegreen but there are 121 listed for sale on ebay at the moment.

Is this a system to avoid?

I used to own Bluegreen but I got out a couple years ago. Some of the resorts are ok, others not so much. To me the MFs were really high for what you get. And I hear they have recently been cracking down really hard on renters.

Cracking down on rentals is definitely why Wyndham and Bluegreen points are for sale at cheap prices. Detrimental to resale values.

What is actually funny is that some bg owners think that the bg resorts are the best in the business and they would not lower their standards to trade

Don't get me wrong, some are pretty nice. I really liked the Club at Big Bear Village, for example. But the Sheratons, Westins and Marriotts I've been to so far have been at least as good, if not better than any of the Bluegreens I went to. And the average cost per night I paid via MFs was actually more with Bluegreen than what I'm paying through Vistana.

And on top of that, some Bluegreens are just plain not worth it to me at all. I recall the joys of the shower head shooting off of the wall when turned on, followed by the door lock on the new room we got moved to malfunctioning, necessitating an hour wait for it to be fixed so we could get back in. That was Club La Pension in New Orleans. The Eilan in San Antonio was unimpressive to me as well. The pool area is nice, and it is very close to Six Flags, but the rooms are basically just hotel rooms, like with Marriott Pulse locations (which I try to avoid), and the parking situation was just crappy as well.

I think the owners remarks that no resorts are as good as Bluegreen just demonstrate they haven’t traveled much. Yes some are great. I own at Christmas mountain. I have two weeks booked in a row. Some woman asked if anyone had anything available for these two weeks. I offered them to her for $300 a week. She drove around and said she and her mother would just stay in a hotel. Must look pretty bad to turn down a two bedroom place for a hotel room.

I do think that their new-ish Savannah property looks nice from the outside, and is very well located.

This is a suspicion, not anything based on measurable. BG owners are getting to the age where they don't (or can't) travel, and/or the VOI interests have been passed on to the next generation who don't use/want them. For a company that started selling timeshares in the early 1990s, assuming their target market age was 45, that target demographic is now 80+ years old. Sponger76 also commented that BG is cracking down on 'renters' who own lots of points, then rent the units to 3rd parties. BTW, this was a common item in many sales pitches over my years of ownership... "you can always rent out your weeks to cover maintenance fees", which turns out (a) to be harder than anticipated and (b) not allowed by the VOI purchase agreement.
Have a look at the number of BG, Wyndham, Marriott, Hilton &tc timeshares for sale both in the TUG marketplace and on eBay. I think you will find the numbers comparable.

ColoradoKid (original poster), BG is right there with any other major timeshare/Vacation Ownership Interest sales company in its operation. Good points and bad. You can check its financials; it is a publicly traded company (stock symbol BVH), and its mandated reports to the government/investors are available in the Investor Relations tab of BVHcorp.com

We have stayed at several BG resorts that have been filthy, dumpy and terrible. And their Choice Hotels are junk, too.
You might want to check your facts. Bluegreen doesn't own Choice Hotels. Choice Hotels is a major hotel chain that is buying out Wyndham (so I have been told). Just like many chains there are nice hotels and some lower end hotels. Bluegreen allows you to convert your vacation club points to Choice Hotels points as an added option - so they have an agreement with them. Choice has many high end options such as Cambria Hotels and Ascend Collection. Also, curious what BG properties you consider to be filthy and dumpy? We own with several timeshare companies - one of which is Bluegreen - we have not found this to be the case. In fact, they have bought out multiple properties over the years to add to their collection and have done a great job of renovating those that needed work. They also bought some million dollar condo units and turned them into a vacation club property in Savannah. What we like about Bluegreen is they have some unique properties that are not cookie cutter, large resort style. They have cabins, and yurts, and boutique city properties.

It doesn't make many BG owners feel good that HGVC bought them either. There is a definite fear of what changes lie ahead.
I think that both sides of this deal are concerned about change.
I am not worried as I will not pay Hilton $7,000 to join/ have access to their HVC Max program that was offered to Diamond/DRI owners. I will continue to exchange via RCI if I want HGVC. And I will continue to book at 11 months out.

I don’t use bonus time booked at 45 days out; this inventory could be affected by the HVC Max as it allows access to different properties at 6 months.

As for quality of resorts, it really varies. I purchased BG to hav3 access to La Cabana Aruba, the only other locations I have stayed at are Solara Surfside in North Miami and Lodge Alley in Charleston. All three of these resorts are very nice and I would go back.

I was very disappointed when BG partnered with Choice, not my preferred hotel. That could be the silver lining of the affiliation with Hilton, only time will tell.

As to why there are so many BG ownerships for sale? With 200,000 owners there is going to be a brisk resale - up until 2022, there was no official “exit program”. Now there is but the word is slow to get around. Cost to exit is 1.5 years of maintenance fee but if you time it right, not too painful.

Certainly agree with that statement.

This "offer" was actually made to both HGVC and DRI members. But the "offer" wasn't actually $7K, it was actually an additional developer purchase or upgrade of either DRI or HGVC (which appears to be much more than the $7K). If someone owned both DRI and HGVC, then only the membership where the additional developer purchase was made was upgraded to HgvMax (unless owner made upgrades to both sides).

Thanks for the additional Information - I could see how a developer purchase could be much more than $7,000. As a HGVC owner, I don’t imagine you saw much value in having access to lower quality DRI resorts ( and certainly not BG) unless it was location driven.
Have you seen any change in availability booking in your “usual“ reservation period.?

Very good question and the answer to that question is the reason which most TUG members haven't "upgraded", IMO.

HGVC members are able to book most available HGVC resorts (excluding former Embarc resorts which were part of DRI but were rebranded HGVC in name only) at the 9-month mark. DRI HgvMax members can only exchange into HGVC at 6-month mark. I am not sure about this (we have tried to validate this statement) but this cross-booking appears to be an exchange program similar to maybe however HGVC-RCI works. In other words, the inventory in HGVC doesn't appear to be completely available to HVC/DRI HgvMax members at the 6-month mark. But anyways to answer your question, I always book by 9-month mark, so I haven't seen any change in inventory since HVC/DRI HgvMax member can only book HGVC at 6-month mark. For what I can tell, most HVC/DRI members feel the same.

The clubs (HGVC, DRI {now call HVC}, Embarc (rebranded with HGVC) all operate as separate clubs. The HgvMax program is only an exchange program on top of the club rules which doesn't transfer on resale.

With BG, you can reserve your PUP priority use period 13-11 month 1 day out - and any/all point reservations at 11 months.
So I reserve my La Cabana PUPs at 12 months and anything else I want at 11 months.
I don’t see this affecting me in any way.

And interesting that you describe the Max program as an exchange program, really an accurate description.

I've owned 10,000 Bluegreen Points at the Lodge Alley Inn (Spring) since 2001. Since we live in CHS, we don't stay at the Lodge Alley Inn. There was a time I could trade back into Blue Green resorts via RCI. These were resorts that I did not have enough points to use to reserve through Bluegreen. However, Bluegreen closed that "back door." And as they have acquired more properties, the points required for the new have risen greatly. There is not much I can do but trade through RCI for something outside of the Bluegreen system or reserve with BG for less than a week close to home. However, there are two Manhattan Hilton hotel room properties that I can trade into for 10,000 points a week through RCI. I'm just afraid that Hilton is going to close that "back door" too. I'm finally seriously considering getting out of Bluegreen.

lol... We just bought into The Club with HGV Max which means we have Diamond Resorts trust points in the US Collection with access to Hilton Grand Vacation Resorts through HGV Max. They informed us during our purchase about the new Diamond and Bluegreen acquisitions. I didn't know anything about Diamond but had been to a sales presentation for Bluegreen maybe back in 2016 or so? I didn't purchase because I couldn't afford it at the time. Now, buying in to Hilton Grand Vacations and having them add on Bluegreen, and I guess Diamond Resorts... I see it as a bonus, although I see we already have access to some Bluegreen resorts through our exchange program with Destination Xchange.

This doesn’t mean that you will have access to the BG resorts. The last message that I saw from HGV on the subject was that they are still evaluating it.
