we just attended an update at the Las Vegas Tropicana. I expected s hard sale on the Deed Trust but instead the sales person tried to convince me to buy into Blue Thread. She said All RCI and Wyndham properties would be available at no fee and dramatically reduced points. She also said the new system would allow you to bank your points for 4 years for only $59 and that we needed this to upgrade out of the old Fairfield system which was obsolete. She said she was blue thread so I told her to show me the new Blue Thread system with RCI and Wyndham on the same screen which of course she could not get into. More lies same old pitch, give us your money and Wyndham will give you the moon

Her new shirt and promotional materials said Wyndham Destinations which is RCI plus Wyndham timeshares, not sure where Worldmark falls in the new scheme it seems that Wyndham has spun off timeshares from the hotel group but I don’t see how that helps owners

I was at Grand Desert and the rep said that she needed my ID and credit card to insure that it was linked properly. I resisted at first but then gave her my card and said that if I received even one text that somebody pulled credit that there would be trouble. She handed it right back to me and just left me lol

Yes same here, the rep said they needed to do a credit check to see if we qualified for Blue.

Worldmark and Club Wyndham and Shell Vacations are the three timeshare systems which along with RCI is called Wyndham Destinations

I'm at WorldMark San Francisco, and agreed to a "15 minute, 12-question survey" to make sure the resort is "doing all they can to ensure owners are receiving the level of service they deserve." (Not sure what that was about.) They did mention Blue Thread, but never did explain it. The guy was casual, accepted that I was not going to buy anything, and didn't pressure me. Basically he just rambled. The whole thing lasted 18 minutes (I told them I was timing them.)

I don't normally go for this sort of thing, but after making it clear I only buy resale and would not be buying anything, the guy did pretty much stick to the script. No pressure. I received a $50 AmEx card for the time. They offered 1000 WM credits, or a $50 gift certificate to a local restaurant. I took the Amex card because I figured it could be used on my terms.

What was she trying to get you to buy? Was she just trying to get you to sign up for a Wyndham rewards credit card or to buy more points using a Wyndham rewards credit card? That's all blue thread is. Using hotel reward points you can book wyndham hotels, wyndham vacation properties, wyndham managed vacation homes and presumably shell, worldmark and maybe even excess rci inventory.

Sometimes the credits are a good option also - as they are special credits where you dont incur a HK charge when you use them.

Thanks, Eric. That's good to know. They didn't mention that. They were pushing the restaurant certificate. I declined that, since I didn't know if we'd want to eat there. No shortage of great places to eat in San Francisco.

She wanted me to buy at Wyndham Desert for $19,000 so Wyndham would convert my original account from Fairfield to Wyndham BLUE thread. I thought the whole thing sounded like a scam.

That is what the sales person was showing us in their sales literature but who knows if this really works or if there are things sales does not disclose.

And you were absolutely right; it is a scam. It is a shame that owners are conned into buying more points they may neither want or need because they are lied to and think they need to do anything. Yes the name changed from Fairfield to Wyndham but that didn't change anything other than the name; your points work just like they always did.

Wyndham sees their hotel guests as great prospects for timeshare sales and they see their timeshare owners as potential hotel guests.

The rewards program is the thread (blue thread if you will) that ties it all together

This blue thread thing is (or at least it started, as) an internal wyndham employee thing. Wyndham was a big company with many separate and distinct individual businesses. The idea was to get all the employees pulling together and to understand that they are working toward some common goals

The timeshare salesmen took it and ran with it as a sales tool. Nobody knows what it means so the salesmen can say it means what ever they want it to mean

No different than when they say Wyndham just bought RCI and use that as a sales tool too

As far as I am aware, you cannot exchange with Shell. Just WorldMark, RCI, and for some people, II. You are correct about Shell falling under the Wyndham destinations umbrella though. I only mention it, in case someone thinks they can trade into Shell. Someone will correct me if I am wrong.

while in austin I was attending a sales sessions, but also had my car parked at the street. There is a parking app and it shows a clock that shows how much time was left on the meter. The rather newish sales guy said he never had anyone time him. I said it was the timing for the car, but the two things expired at about the same time.

I own Worldmark and Shell but not Wyndham. However, as a Shell owner there are about a half dozen Wyndham resorts we can book (with developer points) which suggests to me that there may be some Shell resorts Wyndham can book.

Wyndham destinations is the old WVO (Wyndham Vacation Ownership) plus RCI..

RCI used to be in the same division at Wyndham Worldwide as the various Wyndham rental companies..(Hoseasons, James Villa Holidays, Landal GreenParks®, Novasol, and ResortQuest ®)

I think they are selling off the rental companies

I have successfully booked both The Donatello in SF and Vino Bello in Napa with my Wyndham developer points. I believe they are both Shell properties. But in my experience there is *very* little availability at either location to Wyndham owners.

The above appears to be basically the European selloff of rental units not long ago.

We are at Desert Grand this week. We had our meeting Monday morning where they told a similar story, you need to upgrade to get into Blue Thread. We went down all the upgrade scenarios they put in front of us and agreed to one of them. They brought out the contract for review and execution with the contracts (compliance) representative. She began asking why we were considering an upgrade. I told her it was to get into Blue Thread. She then tells us that we already have Blue Thread b/c we are VIP. I asked her to explain it one more time. Once she did, my wife and I told them we are not interested in any upgrade and walked away from the table. So, if you are already VIP, you have Blue Thread by default. Shady crap still going on here!!! Unbelievable!!! Good thing for the contracts representative or we would have been in-hoc for serious $$$ for nothing!

Blue Thread is nothing. Blue Thread is basically a catchphrase to describe the various connections between the Wyndham Rewards hotel program and timeshare ownership. Like, you can convert your timeshare points to hotel rewards points subject to a fee and certain restrictions (not a good deal), and you can redeem Wyndham Rewards points to stay at Club Wyndham resorts in many cases, in addition to Wyndham family hotels (can be a decent deal). But those connections don't require any particular status at all.

The ability to combine Wyndham Rewards and Ownership points for stays in hotels and vacation resorts. Also the ability to release unused points to Wyndham to sell and receive a check for, and then, use to augment MF.

The plan was to see what you could afford to buy and see your credit rating. Less then average credit they would walk you out to gifting
