Blockbuster Online, Netflix

They just closed our local Blockbuster store. I signed up for an account with the only other video store close to us and they advertise "no late fees". They have a return in 5 day policy and I returned in 6. They re-rented the movies to me. I asked how this was not a late fee and they told me it was a re-rental not a late fee. I call it "I'm not doing business there anymore"

I have always been a blockbuster store fan but don't know much about their online service. I also don't know much about Netflix. My family sometimes watches 1-2 movies on the weekend, so maybe 1-8 movie a month.

Any online dvd rental advise?
Thanks

If you don't have a 'local' Blockbuster store nearby, then the advantage swings greatly to the Netflix side.

I enjoy the Netflix website more and their Instant Movie selection capability is a bonus. Service wise - in my area Netflix is at least 1 day and sometimes 2 days quicker on the dvd turnaround time.

IMO, Netflix rules over Blockbuster!

I agree with ace2000. If you don't have a blockbuster store, then the fact you can return rentals that you got in the mail to the store is a moot point. I've had both Netflix and Blockbuster and I prefer Netflix. Many different rental plans and the ability to watch some stuff instantly on line. I'd advise you to start off slow. See how you really use the system. You can upgrade (or downgrade) at any time.

Cheers!

I have Blockbuster before and switched to Netflix about a year ago. Much happier with Netflix. I also found Netflix has less scratched dvd's and turn around times is also much faster.

Reason I cancelled Blockbuster was they raise the fees. When I went to cancel, they switched me to a new plan with in store coupons. When I did not received the coupons, they tell me was am not eligible even my plan says it does and they will not honor. That when I gave Netflix a try.

Advantages:
Netflix - watch unlimited on-line movies (mostly older movies). Allows me to watch movies on the road as long as I get wifi.
Blockbuster - in store dvd depends on the plan.

One thing to consider is where in the center. Netflix is about 30 miles and Blockbuster is about 120 miles. Maybe that is the reason a get much faster turn around.

Can't say we have Blockbuster to compare, but Netflix is awesome. We get 2 day turnaround on our 1-out-at-a-time plan and with the online movies, we get more movies than we can watch. I guess for a few more bucks a month we could go for the 2-out-at-a-time plan, but that's too many movies for us- we have a life outside the living room!

The selection is vast- I think we have about 30 in each queue- mail and instant view. I have friends with hundreds.

As an aside, our Christmas gift to ourselves was a ROKU box ($100) that puts the instant view movies on the big-screen HDTV.

Been with Netflix 5 years and it is awesome. I used to be a BB fan in the store until I tried Netflix. I do not care to have an option to drop off a movie. I'd rather just walk to my mailbox and work the queque online. I go to imbd and look at movies that are future releases plus movie trailers and add them to my wish list. If I mail out on Saturday I have a new release by Wednesday.

Also you can easily modify from 3 at a time to 2 at a time. We take the movies with us to watch in the TS and then mail them back from there.

We have had both. We only went to Blockbuster from Netflix because son is manager of BB store. Dropped them when they changed plans a year or so ago. We are back to Netflix and prefer them. Mail them back on Saturday and I have the new releases that come out on Tuesday in my mailbox on Tuesday. My DW also watches movies many instant movies that are unlimited.

We switched to Netflix from Blockbuster online (like all the others.) In our case, it was because we rarely got our first two choices on our list - often choice three, four, etc. Apparently "available" didn't really mean available. We have never had this problem with Netflix.

We love Netflix and occasionally download a movie from the older ones they have available immediately by internet. When we get the urge to grab a newer movie without waiting a few days, we'll check out our local Redbox - we can access their availability online and reserve a movie that is held for us in the big red box at our local grocery store where I'm going anyway (if it is in). Not much selection, but we have often found something that interested us.

I didn't know you could reserve Redbox on-line. I like that you can keep them as long as you like although it is a buck a day. I like that you can return them to any Redbox location. We also have Netflix and we like it. They are fast and have a huge selection.

We've done Netflix for a couple of years and LOVE it! We put all the movies we want to see in our queue and they get sent to us in a two day turn around.

You can rate the movies you watch and they will recommend movies to you based on your ratings. It also keeps a list of all the movies you have watched. (great if you are forgetful!)

I also add movies to our queue, long before they are released. I will add a movie title to my 'saved' list as soon as I see a trailor for the movie . . . then as soon as the movie is released to DVD, it gets put into my queue.

Sure beats waiting in line at the rental store!

Netflix rules

just signed up for netflex basic plan ( 1 movie at a time ) and love it. Their turn around time is awesome and their recommendations for movies is right on so far. We have gotten several independant movies and foreign movies that were highly rated and loved them. We also get free movies once a week from our library so between the two have been watching two movies per week which is more than enough.:hi: :cheer:

I've done that with Netflix, too. I'd not heard of some of them but their recommendations are usually good. Can think of one horrid exception, though. Lately I've seen some really good films by Iranian directors--Children of God and Baran. Both were really good but the endings left me unsatisfied. Welcome to the real world and not Hollywood's.
