We are looking for a New Years rest for the Big Island near Kailua Kona that is reasonable and good food-fun place.
Any body recommend a place?

Kona Brewing Company - good pizza and great beer
Huggo's - wonderful view
Kona Inn

I agree with Luanne - we really enjoyed Kona Brewing Co. and you can't beat their daily special.

There's also Bubba Gumps Shrimp Company.

Nice location, but it's a "chain". Unless you don't have an opportunity to go to a Bubba Gump's elsewhere, I'd skip it.

Yeah, and a great chain it is! Another great chain there is the Hard Rock Cafe! For more local fare, LuLu's or Pancho and Lefty's are other good choices.

We enjoy the Hard Rock (and yes, I know it's a chain as well :D ). But, if there is a choice, I prefer going to the more "local" restaurants. I can go to a Bubba Gump's or Hard Rock closer to home.

Luanne:

I agree wholeheartedly. We always try to get what we can elsewhere that we can't get at home. Fortunately, we don't have Bubba Gumps near where we live, and our first experience ever was in Kona, so we associate it with there. DW loves a small Chinese place on Kuikini Hwy for their egg foo young.
So many great places to eat there, and only so many meals!:D

My two favorite places to eat on the BI.... both in Kona:

- Big Island Grill - relaxing, comfortable, large kitchen-type local mixed plate dishes.... great bargains and good food!

- Quinn's Almost By The Sea - best fresh Ono fish and and chips you can get anywhere.... ambiance of the restaurant is not great, but you could also order it 'take out' and eat it on your lanai if you are staying in Kona area.

I saw many people doing the 'take out' deal at Quinn's.
