In July, we switched our trash pickup company. Since the old company required payment in advance, we still had a $200 credit. They said they would refund it. After several weeks, I called them again. They said the refund would take 6-8 weeks. In October I sent them email requesting a refund. Again, they said they'd process a refund, and it would take 6-8 weeks.

As of Monday, still no refund! I submitted a complaint on the BBB web site. On Tuesday, I got email and a phone call from the company saying I'd have the refund by the end of the week. Yesterday the refund was posted as a credit on my Visa card. :whooopie: I was impressed that BBB helped make things happen so quickly.

Maybe I'll try BBB if Diamond Resorts/Hilton doesn't remove the optional $7.00 ARDA-ROC from my maintenance agreement. :LOL: I've already contacted them 3 times, and the web site still shows that I still owe $7 for each of my contracts.

Good companies tremor at the sight of a letter from the BBB. That was always true for our chimney cleaning company. We had only one complaint and it was a stupid one that was dismissed. If your wife says to leave some ashes in the fireplace to help with the next fire (which is a valid request), and the husband sees the ashes and decides to file a complaint against the sweep, then it's a matter of the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing.

I doubt our son is keeping the BBB membership going. I haven't checked lately. It seems that most people just lie and say they are members, when in fact they are not.

Glad it all worked out for you @artringwald

Responding to customer complaints helps the over all BBB rating of the company. If they are accredited, the business is required to respond.

I had a similar issue with getting a refund from Optimum. It had been weeks with no refund. Optimum is almost impossible to reach by phone and if you do get someone they are not competent. I submitted a BBB complaint and I got a reply the very next day and received my refund shortly thereafter.

@artringwald

The only pay program is to be BBB accredited. Otherwise, any consumer can request a BBB profile on a business. The business has no say on whether or not they have a profile on their business. This is how scam companies get a BBB profile.

If your son has a BBB accredited account he can elect to stop that membership. You are correct, companies with low morals, or scammers, can falsely claim BBB Accreditation, even putting the logo on their website. I have seen timeshare scammer websites do just that. The BBB takes that lie very seriously.
