Purchased a Wyndam discovery vacation several months ago. Can extend to 2018. Thinking about Hawaii and taking my niece and nephew. None of us have ever been. I welcome your thoughts

I don't know if it's the "best" but we enjoyed the Wyndham in Kona on the Big Island.

There is no simple answer to your question. Hawaii is a very diverse place. Each island has its own appeal, and very different things to do. If you want U.S. history, Pearl Harbor, Waikiki, and Diamond Head, you'll need to go to Oahu. If you want great beaches and an upscale pampered beach vacation, Haleakala, and the Road to Hana, you need to go to Maui. If you want laid-back peace and quiet in a less-crowded place, more beaches, the amazing Napali coastline, and more diverse weather, then you need to go to Kauai. If you want to see volcanoes erupting and wide open spaces, then the Big Island of Hawaii is the place to be. There are great Wyndham timeshares on each island. You need to make some choices about what sort of vacation you want, and go from there.

Thanks, Dave. I appreciate the thoughts to consider. I've actually sent a message to my niece and nephew to ask them these questions. They are 13 & 16. My husband and I wanted to take my sister and her family as we have already paid for lodging through Wyndam and they would not likely get to go otherwise. A volcano is definitely something unique ...the beach probably wouldn't matter as much to them as long as the resort had a pool :)

Thank you. Sightseeing or activities you recommend?
On the Big Island the one must do/see that I recommend is Volcano National Park. It's the only place where you can see a live volcano. You can do it in a day, but if you have the time it's better to stay overnight in Volcano Village so you can take your time, see the volcano at night, and have a leisurely drive down and back.

There is very good snorkeling on the Big Island as well. We've taken the Fairwinds snorkel cruise several times, but you can also snorkel on your own.

Visiting the coffee growers is interesting. I didn't realize that Hawaii is the only place in the U.S. where coffee is grown.

We just like driving around and seeing the different parts of the island, spending time on the beach, poking around Kona, and just relaxing.

Great info! Thank you!

Another activity to think about is a night snorkle with the Manta Rays. Patti and I just did one with Sea Quest out of Kona. We can not come up the correct words to describe how fantastic it was. Also if anyone in your group is active or retired Military there is a Military Resort (KMC) inside of Volcano National Park. We are going to stay there for 1 night later this week.

I would strongly suggest a multi island visit. Most flights from the mainland go to Oahu, great to visit for 2-3 days, Pearl Harbor, Diamond Head, Poly Cultural Center, beach, take a short flight to the Big Island 2-3 days volcanoes, rain forest, mountains, beach, manta ray, drive around and just enjoy. Fly to Maui, 1-2 days shaved ice (wow), beach, volcanoes and Fly back to Oahu and go home with wonderful memories.

You would definitely need a vacation after this vacation trying to do all these things kind of like a cruise done by air. Flights are reasonable in Hawaii and great to visit the different islands. This would leave an island to visit in the future, but you would have a great taste of Hawaii. Our favorite is the Big Island. Enjoy the great state of Hawaii.

Are all the Wyndham resorts equally nice, or are there ones that are better to stay at???
We usually chose by location. We've been to two on the Big Island, Kona Coast Resort and Hawaiian Village. We didn't chose either because they were Wyndham, our trades were done through RCI. We liked both of them. They were both very nice, just in different locations in Kona.
