I found a contender. It's a local place called Pepe's. They cook the meat at Pepe's on a Al Pastor skewer. The price is so low compared to the resort tacos. It was about 160 pesos for 4 tacos. The 4 tacos are a huge meal. For my wife and I, splitting a plate would have been the way to go. The grandkids had cheese quesadilla and meat tortas which they really enjoyed.

I was at Sea Garden last week and saw taco truck in front of oxxo crowded with locals. My Spanish is very limited but I think I can survive. I pointed which taco I want. When time to pay, I heard the word siete. I handed 70 peso. Well, it was 57 for 3 Tacos. It would be 300 peso at Salum for the same amount of food.

We have been there many times. It is a short walk from the Buganvilias. We have tried just about everything and it is all good and the prices are amazing. The locals go there a lot too.

Also inside that Oxxo is O'sabor where tacos are really good and cheap, not all O'sabor in other locations are good, but this one in my opinion is

I have eaten at Oxxo near the Sea Garden & recommend it as well . There are outside tables to one side.

the Saturday Market behind the Sea Garden has a family run taco stand that makes / uses fresh made blue corn tortillas.

I have also bought homemade Tamales from a lady selling from a cooler at the side the Oxxo parking lot in the evening. The cab drivers were stopping, & seemed to know it as a regular spot.

I took the Vallarta Eats tour one year. Don't know what you'd consider 'the best taco' - the ones I ate were geared towards people with zero adventure (lengua or chicharrón are my favorites and nothing close on the tour). For me, the best tacos, etc. are at Cuates y Cuetes - the place I park my butt to watch the world go by. The food is always better with the right atmosphere.
