Doing some research on purchasing resale points. I looked on the TUG Marketplace, https://vacationpointexchange.com, and eBay but not seeing a whole lot of options. Are there other sites I missed? Also, it appears resale points are going on average for about $6.90 pp. Does that sound right?

No. I checked last week, lots of resale points going for about $3 in eBay, Redweek, you name it. You have to pass ROFR, which is currently in the region of $3.50+, and then pay MVC junk fees of $3 per point to bring it into the system.

Here are a few from eBay right now:

Thanks. I saw those. Being a points novice, I just assumed there would be a bunch more. Thus, the naïve "not seeing a whole lot of options" comment.

Also, I was taking the Marriott fees into consideration when I came up with the $6.90 pp estimate (which was calculated from averaging 3 of those 4 ads).

I will check eBay completed sales to get a perspective. Do you have a feel for the various increments sold? I would need 3,750 (15 shares) to achieve the Executive ownership level. I see sales down to 1,000. Not that it's a lot of money for back of the envelope calculations, but if I'm doing "what if" comparisons to what I purchased from Marriott Sunday, should I assume I'll only be able to get my required shares by purchasing 4,000?

Thanks, again.

There are 3 options to get into the Destination Club program.

1) Buy hybrid bundle from MVC, which comprises a resale week and points. The advantage of this option is that the resale week can trade in II with no trading fees and it can be traded back into Marriott properties. MVC points can trade in II but CANNOT be traded into Marriott properties.

2) If you own resale weeks, buy points from MVC to bring them into the system. This option is cheaper than option 1, but you will need to be patient. They seem to run this program during the summer for about 3 months, and offered once every other year or so.

3) Buy resale points. I don't like this option because this cannot qualify resale weeks and also that points cannot be used to trade into Marriott properties in II. If you want to make all reservations in DC program, then this is the best option for you.

In most situations, II exchanges offer the best value. You can trade a studio or 1BR into a 2BR by paying a room size upgrade fee. If I am budget conscious, all that I would now own is resale weeks and trade in II. You have to be flexiible with dates and be on top of II deposits.

Redweek.com has alot more listings. Yes, I would plan for about $7 pp if you buy resale. See my post above on the 3 options.

You may have seen my comments in the "rescinding" thread. Two days ago, we did buy 3,500 from Marriott which got us to Presidential and brought our HPS and MOW resale weeks into the system. Our ASU was already in.

Historically, we've rented out our platinum ASU GV for $3,400+, traded HPS (via II) for a winter week in Orlando, and stayed at MOW during our home Gold season around Labor Day. During the pandemic we paused renting ASU and elected points for 2021 and 2022. The points were fun and useful as we are a little more than 2 hours from Myrtle Beach and about 4 1/2 to Williamsburg and HHI. So this weekend while we were enjoying a free 3-night stay at MOW we did the obligatory update sales session and added to our portfolio. Thinking that there was no way we were buying anything, I didn't do any advanced homework to get myself back up to speed. Long story short, my wife thinking that we would start taking 2-4 day, non-Friday/Saturday vacations to resorts in close proximity liked the deal and we jumped in. I knew we had 5 days to rescind, so I agreed. LOL, now I'm doing a crash course to determine whether or not we did the right thing. As I used to do years ago, I'm now back leaning on the collective knowledge of the TUG community.

Again, thanks for your help.

P.S.- I couldn't find the point sales over at Redweek on first attempt. I'll need to go back and look again!

So far, I found:
1. Tug resale listings;
2. Redweek;
3. Ebay;
4. Fidelity.

Redweek is a good source, except it seems that many MVC listings are dominated by one broker who, IMO, is grossly inflating asking prices. I try to find direct seller listings or listing by Redweek direct. Ebay makes me uncomfortable - too easy to scam on Ebay. Fidelity has some good listings, but twice I made an offer only to find out the listing information was incorrect (listed EY when it was actually EOY).

I disagree with last part of this. The sweet spot of points is less than week vacations and destination escapes. Reserving a week then adding on 3-4 days so you don't have to travel on most expensive days. Or doing a quick weekend getaway. If you are doing just weeks, unless you are able to get to 13 month window so you can go where you want, it is not a good deal. Unless you do a destination escape week.

As for places. I found a broker than told them what I wanted (amount and price.) They can track them down and also help with ROFR

What about the best source for renting Mvc points for a single use year? I see a few on vacation point exchange. But thought there would be more. Didn’t see any on redweek st first glance

If you are just doing weeks, MVC releases only 50% of inventory at 13 month. There is another 50% release at 12 months. I definitely won't say that single week ownership and booking "is not a good deal". Sometimes I miss the 13-month window and have had zero issues in reserving at 12 months.

One thing to remember with the ads is they are put up by the seller generally to offload the maintenance fees that come with the points. Whether it's you or Marriott that buys them in the end doesn't matter to them most likely. But if you buy them at a bargain rate that's less than what's passing ROFR with Marriott, even though you will get all your money refunded in the end you are wasting your time in the transactions. It seems weird to say but you might have to pay them significantly above their asking price to get a transaction that actually achieves your goal of owning the points after ROFR. According to rofr.net, in the past couple weeks two transactions failed at or below $3.90 pp before fees and one passed at $6 pp.

On redweek you have to click book a trip, then timeshare points, then scroll down to Marriott vacation club destinations.
edit- just realized you said rent, this for sale. Sorry, I would delete if I could.

Sorry wasn’t clear. With points, if the goal is to only do weeks then not a good deal. The sweet spot is a combo platter. Reserve your week and then add on days with points. Or for me, Island hoping in Hawaii where I can spend 4 nights on each island. Have a meeting that ends on a Tuesday on the coast so I can start my first reservation on a Wednesday.
