What is the best San Francisco timeshare (if any even qualify to be described as a "best" of anything) ??? Is there anyone who has actually seen more than one from the inside for comparison, or either convinced by experiencing one that was great? In asking which is the best, I'm assuming that they are decent enough to pursue, compared to a hotel which I could get thru Marriott Rewards points.....Having been to SF two times many years ago as a teen, I'd love for my wife and kids (both upper teens) to see the city and surrounding area. It's hard to tell from the II and RCI catalogs which is nice and which is well-located. I also realize that it's a hard trade to get, but I have to start somewhere, and just go for it. Or should I just get a fine hotel and pay for it? We DON'T want a "3-star" anything, or below. Thanks in advance. (I guess I'm searching for that ethereal San Francisco version of NYC's Manhattan Club!!!) Kind Regards, jme

Try SFX

Not sure myself but I think your best bet in getting anything would be through sfx.

Powell Place

I have stayed at both Nob Hill Inn and Powell Place. The location of each can't be beat, but wih teenagers I would suggest Powell Place. Our suite was quite charming and well equipped and we could just step outside and get on the cable car. If you buy a city pass you can use public transportation to get everywhere very easily. This exchange was through SFX.

I have to suggest Suites at Fisherman's Wharf since I am an owner there. However, I also live in SF and I think that SFW have a very good location. It is walking distance to many of the tourist sites and also have a cable car stop in front. For hotels in the city, I like the W and also the various Hyatts. Good luck

I don't own here but live somewhat near and I would have to second this on the location of The Suites at Fisherman's Wharf especially with teenagers. :)

Just be aware that none of the SF Timeshares are purpose built resorts - they are all converted apartments, or hotels. Also - none of them are new. They do not have pools, activities, or other resort amenities. Of course, there is so much to do in SF, you aren't going to care, but just so you know.

San Francisco proper, is very small, and public transportation is cheap and easy, so where you stay isn't real critical as far as location. However, parking a car will cost you $20 - $40 a day, so skip the rental car, unless you are going to do a day-trip outside San Francisco.

If you decide to go for a hotel, the Columbus Moter Inn, near Fisherman's Wharf has clean, comfortable family suites for a reasonable price ($130 - $180) AND free parking. www.columbusmotorinn.com

I like Priceline too - I just got 2 rooms at the Embarcadero Hyatt for $120 (per room) a night. The regular rate was over $250.

Denise: I was born in San Francisco and your info report on the City was superb! Left before the BART was built so I learned SO much from your work. Thank you!

We have stayed at the Inns of FW, Powell Place, Donatello and Nob Hill. Our vote is the Inn. It felt roomier.

Thanks Kathy! We live about 90 min. away and visit SF often - in fact I am taking my mom and daughter to SF on Fri. for a girls weekend to celebrate Mom's 70th BD! We are going to Teatro Zinzanni for the first time - http://love.zinzanni.org/ It looks like a hoot!
