Best MVC Resort GYM on Hilton Head Island

For fitness enthusiasts, I’m wondering which MVC resort on Hilton Head Island has the best gym, when it comes to cardio equipment, resistance and strengthening equipment, and free weights?

For gym oriented guests, on HHI, I wonder if you left the MVC resort you were staying at, and purchased a day pass, at a gym on steroids, on HHI? If so, where?

I've always been disappointed at the gyms in the Hilton Head MVC resorts. I typically work out every day and alternate weights with cardio. The big three gyms aren't nearly as good as those in most other major MVC resorts, and Grand Ocean is the worst. I think Surfwatch is probably the best, but I now go to the Planet Fitness that is less than 2 miles from Surfwatch. Barony is ok.

Barony is probably the biggest, followed by Surfwatch, and then Grande Ocean. Agree with @Superchief that the Grande Ocean one is terrible. Gyms seem to be an afterthought at a lot of MVCs or even if they are nice are WAY too small to support the number of people at the resort.

Planet Fitness is a really good option as mentioned, or the Community Center (which has a great lap pool and a Masters team for any of your swimmers), but that's a hike from most of the resorts.

This is great, thank you. I just called Planet Fitness, on HHI, access is $34.00/week.

Thank you.

The gym at GO was redone a couple of years back. I thought it was pretty good when I was there last time.

If there is one in your area, the cost is about $25 per month for a black card which provides access to any Planet Fitness in the country. I use them a lot while traveling. Most locations also participate in Silver Sneakers. I think you can cancel without penalty at any time. The black card also includes 2 guests per visit. The clubs are almost always very clean.

I've noticed a large increase over the years regarding the use of fitness rooms at MVC resorts and other hotels, especially for weight training. Newport Coast, Canyon Villas, and Ocean Pointe always had decent facilities and equipment. The newer resorts, including Crystal Shores and Oceana Palms have larger facilities and newer equipment, but don't have some things that I like to use (lat bar and incline bench). The Hilton Head resorts are sufficient for cardio, but limited in weight equipment. I really like the Palms resorts in Orlando because each have their own smaller facility in addition to being able to use the more extensive World Center facilities.
