Starting to look at Hawaii for a year and a half out. I have grandkids that are 7, 13 and 16. Can anyone give suggestions for which location in Hawaii would be best for this combo of ages? We took them to Ko Olena about 7 years ago and they loved that! My 13 year old granddaughter can't wait to go to Hawaii again and I want her experience to be great. I know it can never be as wonderful as the first time! My 7 year old granddaughter was only 3 months old then so this will be like her first time. My grandson who is 16 loves sports and outdoor activities. What locations have your young ones enjoyed the most???

Ko’Olina is the best for kids. Lots of snorkeling right in the safe bays, close to lots of things, beautiful resort and lots of activities

Ko Olina or Maui Ocean Club. Plenty to do at both, for those ages.

I am interested too as hope to bring mine in the next year or 2 also.

With a 13 and 16 year old, Waiohai on Kauai or Maui Ocean Club. Both Kauai and Maui offer lots of outdoor activities for teenagers. We prefer Waiohai because it sits on the swimmable and snorkelable Poipu Beach - the reef, ocean, and wildlife are amazing. We also prefer Kauai's rural atmosphere to Maui's (or more accurately Kaanapali's) suburban feel.

I'd avoid Ko Olina (unless the teens are complete swimming novices) since it sits on a bathtub-like man made lagoon.

Not sure when your trip is - I was told the Kid pool from Sept2022 - March 2023 is being renovated.

Edit Referring to Ko Olina

Is that in Ko Olina that the kid pool is being redone? We are going in July 2023.

We took our girls age 6 and 10 to Ko Olina this year. They fell in love with Hawaii immediately. I like the bays there because it is calm and safe to swim. It was bit cold for us and luckily I had my shortie with me. Next April 2023, we are going to Maui for 2 weeks staying one week at WKOVRN and the second week at MOC. I am concerned that the ocean could be rougher and it gets deep more quickly.

They said it should be done by February 2023 when i called but not sure.

Edit: was one of the reasons why we chose Maui Ocean Club for Oct 2022.

We have stayed at Ko Olina (own there), Maui, and Waohai with our kids--can't go wrong with any of them. However, we thought Waiohai had the best kid centered activities, to include catch and release fishing in their pond, hula lessons, and a fun geocache scavenger hunt. All that said, I would focus on what they want to do OUTSIDE of the resort. Oahu great for history (Pearl Harbor, Iolani Palace, etc) and shopping, while Kuaui can't be beat for natural beauty. Our favorite activities included hiking at the top of Waimea Canyon, a Na Pali Coast catamaran tour with snorkeling (recommend Blue Dolphin), and the tubing adventure with Kauai Back Country.
