I would lime to hear from fellow TUGGERS of the best resorts for family fun in the southeast. It does not have to be on beach! Looking for overall Summer fun with lots of activities, water fun, park, etc etc

I only know Massanutten, it's got a water park and lots of family activities. We're going to Williamsburg in August and visiting Busch Gardens and Water Country U.S.A. too. We will spend time at the beach too. Should be fun for the whole family!

Myrtle Beach, South Carolina would be my suggestion. We own at Sheraton Broadway Plantation. This resort trades with II and RCI. It is a Gold Crown Resort with indoor and outdoor pools, lazy river and many activities for kids. It is close to Broadway on the Beach which has many activities, restaurants and entertainment for all. It is about one mile from the beach. The units are very nice, spacious and clean. All lanai's are screened in. If you like Mineature Golf ... I think Myrtle Beach has some of the best courses around. We love M.B. and especially staying at the SBP. Have fun!

Define South East, Can we include the Disney resorts?

If not, my 6yr old REALLY enjoyed Massanutten in Virginia and Kingsgate in Williamsburg, williamsburg is great because if you get bored with the 'onsite' amenities, there is ALOT to do off site, that wasn't that case with Massanutten, the only things to do around Massanutten are onsite

i *Hope* my daughter will enjoy Sheraton Broadway Plantation next Summer...

Sheraton Broadway Plantation is a very nice resort. We actually drove through it and checked it out when we were there this past spring break. It has a nice outdoor area for the family. It's not on the beach, but that is not the ONLY attraction in MB and not a bad thing. The traffic in MB can get really cumbersome at times, especially if your near the southern part of MB where the "Tourist Traps" are at, like Ripley's etc. SBP is close to Broadway at beach, and right on a couple of other main Road so it's easy to get in and out of. And it's not that far from the beach either. MB has a ton of public access beaches. Plan your day, get to the beach early, and you will have a nice time.

Out of all the TS's in MB, SBP may have the nicest amenities for families. If your in Aiken SC, you probably already know what there is to do in MB so we really don't have to tell you much about it.

Like I said in the other thread. Another resort that is off the beach that we are getting into is Harbor Lights. It's a Bluegreen Resor. HL's has two nice outdoor pools and a lazy river and an indoor pool. I haven't been able to visit yet, but from what I have read, from reviews on here and at www.timeshareforums.com, HL has the nicest and biggest rooms in MB. Also, with Bluegreen, you have access to all other resorts in BG's resort network.

I don't think you could go wrong with either Sheraton or Harbor Lights, but from what I have seen, Sheraton has the better outdoor amenities for kids.

Have you had a chance to check out the TUG Ratings and Reviews - it's TUG Resort Databases in the red bar at the top of the page.

I really hate these discussions of whats best....Whats best for one family is not best for another.. and often whats best for one family member is not best for another member of the same family

I have trouble finding any resort that works for my immediate family (two old people and two old dogs....And when I extend things a bit to add our kids and grandkids its even more difficult

Ill just say that its not the resort and the things to do there, Whats important is that the family is doing something (anything) together...Thats why its not important if its raining all week at the beach, or if the snow is melting at a ski resort...

When you think about it, the Southeast is a HUGE area. Carolinas, Georgia, Florida, Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana, Tennessee, Virginia... TONS of timeshares! If you narrowed it down to a municipal area (like Hilton Head, Orlando, Myrtle Beach, etc), that would make it a little easier.

But, I agree with RonParise. It's not what is best, it's what you want out of the resort. For instance, would an Aquaphobic person want large and deep pools? Would a Koinoniphobic (fear of groups of people) person want a very popular and packed resort? Would a person who wants a nice place to relax go to Walt Disney based resorts? Probably not.

While it is ture that "Best" is in the eyes of the beholder, I think we can provide examples of places that are "Best for Families". These examples won't apply to all families but to many.

That being said, I define a place which is best for familites as one that has activities that would be of interest to 2 or 3 generations; ie, children, parents, and grandparents. Also, a place that had activities which all 2 or 3 generations would enjoy together. In addition, a place where the whole family could get together for quality time.

Based on the above criteria, many the examples provided would fit the bill. Myrtle Beach is a good choice because of the large diversity of things to do for all generations. Myrtle is also fairly centrally located in the SW so many people living in the SW can easily drive to it.

The two Wyndham resorts in DC are good because DC has lots to do for families. Though they are not as centrally located (expecially National Harbor) but you can get to all the sights from these resorts.

Massanutten may be a good choice especially if you live in Virginia or one of the ajacent states. You also have Williamsburg and Virginia beach which are good.

Though I love Hilton Head Island there is less to do for children but it could work.

If the family are beach people the Outer Banks is good but there is less diversity of things to do so this would be a beach-oriented vacation.

If you include Florida there are many options including Orlando, Tampa area, and Fort Lauderdale.

We usually travel with kids

We're from the upstate in SC so I'm interested to hear what others might have to add.

We are beach / water lovers so our favorite list will almost always include the ocean or great pools. Our "kids" range from 0-35 w/grandkids.

We love the coastal SC barrier islands from Hilton Head to Wild Dunes. We prefer gated communities and spent Easter at Seabrook with 6 kids 3-17 - we did LOTS of bike riding, playing on the beach and swimming/splashing in the pool area (as you know we had great warm weather this Easter).

We have a house rented in Sea Pines next month when the grandkids come. We did this last year in Palmetto Dunes and they've all begged for a repeat (we don't actually like Myrtle Beach. (personal preference)..except the Marriott there is wonderful....but with 8 kids it's a bit too much).

If you're looking for waterpark fun at a timeshare I've been wanting to check out that Wyndham in Severville(sp)....it sounds like the Great Wolf Lodge we visited last year outside of Charlotte - the boys (10&11 especially loved the GWL....waterslides & MAGIQUEST) it was a great hit.

There are wonderful waterpark resorts in Orlando (check out Harbour Lakes or Reunion resort - LOVED THEM both)....The Reunion resort got us to checking out the one near St Augustine as well on Hammock Beach - WONDERFUL! Beautiful resort on the ocean with a waterpark type pool area.

Took the boys to Washington with a stop in Jamestown/Yorktown area - Loved that trip too...(new museums there are great!)...one of our few trips without water. We went in April (after spring break), weather & lack of crowds were wonderful!

Since you're also from SC.....feel free to PM me and share your own ideas....I have tons.

So much to see and do:) ......not enough time or money:(
