Not sure if anyone else is being told this... or if there is official communication on it, but according to the phone rep I spoke to when trying to book a resort on the gulf coast of Florida, all those resorts, which we used to be able to book like normal HGVC resorts (3 day minimums) are turning into 7 day minimums.

Has anyone else heard that, it seems like a complete violation of the HGVC program and a MAJOR downgrade for members.

This would surprise me, except that the only weeks coming into HGVC from those properties are weeks that are booked by owners and then converted into points so I could see them trying to rent out the whole week versus fractions.

However, Craig Lodges is fixed weeks and owners cancel those reservations for points to use in HGVC but folks aren't restricted to a weekly reservation there.... So this would surprise me. Maybe call back and talk to another CSR. You can get different answers based on who you talk to.

I actually have heard this story a 2nd time (I called a few times on different days to see what answers I get)... which is why I posted here. they said, "new for 2026". I also just sent a "contact us" email so I can get some written documentation of this since it is a little strange to me.

Maybe a test would be to try to book less than a week and see what happens

True...I guess we need a volunteer to call in and ask to book any time period less than a week at any SW FL property.... And see what happens

hard to do when it is call in only.
Assuming you have the points, call and reserve a week. Then call a day later and try to change it to a shorter reservation.

If after a couple of tries no CSR will do it, change it to a ressie you might want to use.

To test their "new" policy, we need to get someone to try to book less than a week. If it is possible, then the CSRs are FOS.

I tried that... and this is the answer they gave me twice in a row.

I am not booking a full week and trying to cancel/rebook.

Stupid question...but why not? It's January 5th...if they won't let you shorten your stay in the FL Gulf you can modify that reservation to any date until Dec 31st.

If there are new unwritten rules I don't want to find myself a victim of their chaos.

Wise call. Those might now be "non-changeable" reservations, like some other resorts are. Unless you have no reservations fees (Max or EP), then you could be out some cash when cancelling.

I wonder if this is more to do with the system migration to Diamond than a new policy? So far, the Diamond system has caused a lot of problems.

Do you know if the SW FL properties have migrated to it?

There are a few that have not migrated and at least one shows some availability for less than 7 days but that may change once it does migrate.

I am currently at Sanibel Cottages in SW Fl
I tried to add one day to my reservation but Hilton could not make the change and said they could only due 7 days during a "transition"
Resort says they can do nothing and that it is a mess and has to do with changing computer systems

Depending on when you tried, you can't change a reservation within 61 days of the stay in the HGVC system but the transition to the Diamond system has created other change issues

If you're trying to add a day to a stay you are currently on, I don't think that has ever been easy/allowed. I still think that is the biggest shortcoming of the HGVC system, where you can't add days when there is inventory there. I completely understand not being able to drop days, but not being able to add days makes no sense.

Only an impression
I think if the person I was talking to could have seen the extra day he would have tried to add it
He would have tried to cancel the existing reservation and then made a new one (with applicable charges)
But I am guessing
He might have tried but then told me that he couldn't but we never got there

OO has had similar change issues with the new system. You can call to modify though but I think they were also having a problem of seeing the inventory

Are you trying to add a day to your current stay at Sanibel or a future one? That’s not clear to me.

I was staying at SeaWorld during hurricane Ian. Due to the airport shutdown, I needed an extra night. Front desk told me that my specific room type was sold out so the only way to add was either a new booking in a different room type or nightly via Hilton hotels. They told me it would have been possible if the room type wasn't sold out.

I was trying to add Friday Jan 2 at the beginning of my stay
Resort was nice since the unit was vacant they let me check in when their office opened on Saturday

I think additions like that are definitely quite rare, with or without a system change going on. I was able to extend a stay one night before I owned on a reservation someone else had made for me. It was a pretty extreme circumstance and the person who made the reservation for me was able to contact someone at HGVC who tko of it. I have tried once or twice since then with no luck. Having AI allows me to cancel and re-book without a new fee, but I would likely never do that very close to a check-in fearing that the inventory wouldn't come back.
