I'll be sharing it with my dad. He grew up there in the 1940's/1950's and I'm sure that it will bring back some wonderful memories. He will love seeing it without tourists because that's what he remembers. The hotels won't look familiar though.
My first thought after watching this video, is that this would be a good time to begin a beach reconstruction project to address the erosion. I can see this as being an 'essential' project for saving Waikiki.
On our first trip to Kauai in 1986, we stayed at the Poipu Beach Hotel. Here's a stock photo of it, before it was destroyed by hurricane Iniki in 1992. It looks like they were practicing social distancing way back then. The hotel was stripped to the framing, completely remodeled, and reopened in 2009 as the very upscale Koʻa Kea Hotel.
