I only like cotton rugs in the bathroom; I don't like the feel of polyester under my wet tootsies. We always buy the ones with a non-slip backing, but they're getting hard to find, especially in a decent size at a good price.

I could use new ones, but most of the ones in the stores are reversible, i.e. with cotton pile on both sides.

My question is, aren't those likely to slip? I certainly don't want to skid across my bathroom floor after my shower!

we've been using the reversibles in our bathroom for the past 3 years, and they've never slipped when stepping on them.

I bought a reversible cotton rug for DD to use at college and they didn't need it. I decided to put it in my bathroom and the first time I stepped on it, I slid and almost fell backward. I took it up until I can get a gripper rug pad for it.

I had placed it in front of the sink rather than by the shower, and you have to walk over it to access the shower, tub and toilet. Maybe I needed to use it in a more out-of-the-way place. I generally use a bath mat by the shower, which I hang up after using and can easily wash.

always with the backing. we have ceramic floors in baths and dining area. very slick. we have a love/hate relationship with them. check Bed Bath and Beyond. they tend to have a large selection.

Dh buys cheap ones at Walmart, which we wash and keep until worn, then recycle, buy another. many get demoted to the garage. It's the time of year to collect them and duct tape them to the floor to collect snow and ice and other slippery winter crap. in the spring, i use em in the garden. mud season but I gotta get out there. I stay cleaner, less sharp crap poking my knees, no mud on the bottom of my shoes, no sinking in mud!, etc. maybe after a large rain when I have an outdoor party planned. It's dark, they look good enuf ; )

they're good around a bonfire after rain as lawnchairs sit pretty good on em. I have a zillion uses for old bath rugs. they are begging for a landfill when they leave here.

I'm big on preventing slip n fall, too.

I've switched to all cotton bath mats in recent years as part of my effort to get rid of unnecessary vinyl, rubber, etc. inside the house. I think the key is to get heavy weight larger sized mats. I have two young kids who splash water all over the place and no slips. I've had the lighter weight towel-like bath mats before and those are not good for slippery floors. I bought my current mats from the Home Store, one of those discount places that is part of the TJ Maxx family, and Bed Bath and Beyond (and you can get a 20% off one item coupon if you sign up for its emailing list).

I've used the reversable ones but always put those "rug gripper" mats underneath them, because I thought they were too slippery otherwise. It's easy to cut that stuff to fit the size you need, and it really held the rugs in place on the bathroom tile.

That seems like the best compromise. I don't want to slip like sstamm!
