Friends of mine are currently in Hawaii, first time in Kauai, staying at Pahio Ka 'Eo Kai. They purchased a 2 br VIP membership at Pahio Bali Hai Villas (North shore) yesterday and they understand Pahio properties are now Wyndham resorts. Since we do not own any points, I was not sure what to say, other than I know my timeshare pals would tell them to rescind and do research before they buy from the developer's sales team. They are already VIP owners in a Mexican Vacation Club. Their home (AI) resort is Adventura Spa, near Cancun, that trades with RCI. After their phone call, I did my own research and found a 2br Pahio Kauai Beach Villas, Lihue, on eBay. The ad indicates you can reserve any of Pahio's 4 properties with this purchase, in any location, including oceanfront, based on availability. Other than saving a ton of money, is their any reason not to purchase resale? Also, because they purchased at Bali Hai Villas, are they first in line to reserve their home resort since they are VIP members there. I'm sure they purchased it, knowing it was the newest and best Pahio property. They will go to Maui next week, so by the time they return home, it will be too late to change their mind.

They need to rescind. They aren't going to get enough benefit out of the VIP to make it worth developer price.

We were going to convert our weeks at Bali Hai to Platinum VIP and almost paid $18,100 to do it. This would have given us a huge number of points, more like 1,600,000 or so. The price they paid has to be close to double the cost ours was going to be. It is not worth it. We rescinded our contract by following the instructions in the paperwork, which was very clearly written on the contract. We just sent it return receipt requested, which costs a few dollars, and we didn't go to the post office until the 7th day, which was the last day we could rescind. It only has to be postmarked by then, not received by then.

If they like Fairfield points (Fairshare in Wyndham), they can buy resale on eBay for about 90% less. They can still get into Bali Hai as Wyndham members. They can also buy Bali Hai weeks on the resale market for about $7,500 for a two bedroom and much less for a one bedroom.

Thanks, Cindy, I was hoping you would read my post. That was the answer I was expecting. I called my friends and left a message on their cell to call me ASAP. BTW, I read your article in TST. Great job!

Please note to anyone reading this:

The TS "Pahio Bali Hai Villas" was recently purchased by and is managed by Fairfield/Wyndham. But there are 2 seperate ownerships units at Bali Hai. There are the Pahio units (bought pre FF, which you can buy resale) and there are Fairfield/Wyndham units.

The Pahio units are almost all units which you can buy resale. They can be converted to FF/Wyndham but at a very significant price. IMHO, if you want Hawaii keep these units outside of FF/wyndham.

The FF/wyndham units are units which wyndham aquired when they bought out Pahio (& club intrawest). They are what Wyndham is currently selling at Bali Hai and they are part of the FF/Wyndham system of resorts. They also are being sold at a huge cost.

You can buy FF/wyndham weeks (& points) resale at other FF resorts and save 90%. Then use your FF points to do internal trades into the Pahio/Wyndham resorts.

Hope that helps

PS ( to any Pahio/ Wyndham owners) If any of this info isn't correct, PM me and I'll correct it.

This is not true. You can only reserve at the facility in which you own, and like for like. If you own in Phase II, Ka'Eo Kai, 2nd floor, you can only make reservations in those units. Once the reservation is made, you can do an internal exchange by depositing with RCI and requesting an exchange at another Pahio facility. You will have to pay an exchange fee; but as a Pahio owner, you are given priority for the exchange. Once your reservation is made at your owned facility, you can request an upgrade to another unit, if available.

The Ad actually says, "Owning a Pahio timeshare allows you to use any of their 4 properties. " This is true.
