Has anyone ever done a background check on anyone?? Are there any free or pretty inexpensive places to do it? Do they let the other person know that I checked??? :D

My son and dil own and rent a shore house on a yearly basis. He has in the rental agreement that the prospective tenant will pay for the background check. If they pass that, he demands a pay stub to prove that they are employed. They also know this ahead of time.

It has saved him from renting to people who lie and say they are employed or lie about their background.

It depends on what kind of background check you want to do. A credit check does show up on the person's credit report. Some states, like PA, have a public Criminal website. You can put in a name and it will tell you if/when they were arrested, the crime, date, sentence etc. Google and local newspapers can yield a lot of info especially if the person doesn't have a common name.

Don't you have to get permission from a prospective tenant first to do a credit check? Also, you have to let the tenant know why you didn't approve their credit, if you turn them down. This is how it used to be in CA but it may have changed since then. Is every State completely different?

Thanks for the info - I want to do one more like someone would do if they wanted to date someone but want to check him/her out first - before the date!! I would not want them to know though. This is not a potential tenant though. Sorry for the confusion. ;)

Dating is not so dissimilar from timeshare investing. I remember some advice that I received before I began.

Have realistic expectations. Your decision to purchase a timeshare (date/dating) was a commitment to quality vacation time, and not a financial investment. But you still need to have a set rental price in mind, and be sure to clearly state all details of the unit your renting out. Remember you could be liable for damage renters cause. You may want to do a background check on your rental request.

If your renting a timeshare (date/dating) be sure to get as much information on the unit you will be renting, such has how many people may stay in the unit, what days, and times must you check-in and check-out. Ask about any other restrictions or things you should be aware of.

Create a Rental Agreement

You should have a rental agreement (dating guidelines or prenuptual) prepared ahead of time and make sure you are fully aware of unexpected circumstances such as the renter backing out at the last minute because they find a better deal. If you are renting a timeshare be sure that you clearly understand the rental agreement and have good communication with the person doing the renting.

Research the Competition (his/her ex's, current dates, or check out your own dating options)

To help determine a price for renting your timeshare, find out what similar units are going for at your resort and at comparable resorts in that area. Check out resorts, hotels, travel sites, and other sites that rent out timeshares.

Listing, or Locating A Rental

A Quality Resort and an Enjoyable Vacation (Look for a quality date/future partner, not just a good time.)
While the value of any timeshare is based upon location, resort reputation, size of unit, resort amenities, and season, the things you will want to note above all are the quality of the resort and the types of activities nearby.

I live, share, and date in North Carolina. Each state will offer similar information.
North Carolina criminal records indicate that murder rates went down by 27 percent since its peak in 1993, while rates of robbery and burglary incidents went down by 15 and 12 percent, respectively.

However, North Carolina criminal records show that the rate of theft of motor vehicles increased by about 8 percent at around the same time period. By contrast, North Carolina criminal records, through the BJS, also report that an a decrease in the rates of violent crime 1995 was the largest decrease since 1973.

North Carolina criminal records can be obtained from various agencies and offices. Aside from the State Bureau of Investigation, another source of North Carolina criminal record would be the Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS). Other sources for the North Carolina criminal record include the North Carolina SAVAN/VINE, which victims can easily call up and ask for information regarding the status and alterations in a particular offender’s custody and judicial supervision.

Other sources for the North Carolina criminal records would be the North Carolina Department of Corrections, the North Carolina Sex Offender, and Public Protection Agency.
