Is anyone planning to attend the Aventuras Owners Assn Annual Meeting in Los Cabos? I would like to vote by proxy but want to give my proxy to someone who I know will represent the interest of owners. I have no idea who Bruce McNish is (he is President of the Owners Association) or whether he would truly represent my interests at that meeting. He is the default proxy unless I can name another owner who will be there. Of course, if someone can vouch for his character and positions on ownership issues, I might be willing to give him my proxy.

So he might not be acting in the best interest of owners since he represents the corporate parent. That's kinda what I was afraid of.

My experience with Starwood/Vistana elections is that they (Vistana) vet the owner applications and choose the candidates who they want to be on the ballot. Then, they don't get a quorum in the election, so the sitting board gets to select the winner(s), and they choose the candidates that Vistana wants. Yes - it's fixed.

When you give your proxy, your proxy has to vote how you indicate on the form. They can't just vote for anyone. They are simply there taking the place of you and voting as you. You can indicate that you only want them to vote for items specifically spelled out in the proxy form and not some other things that may also come up.

The Vistana/Aventuras proxy only allows you to name your proxy. No voting items are specified.

On this thread DeniseM is correct 99.999999 about the election of board members because a quorum is almost impossible to achieve. IMHO.

Yes, I am sure Denise is spot on about how these sham owners meetings are conducted. I plan to recycle my proxy invitation without acting on it. I am not going to give my proxy to the VP of Operations for Marriott.

this is why they do not want virtual meetings, more people would probably participate and they do not like that.

The Vistana/Aventuras proxy only allows you to name your proxy. No voting items are specified.
In Florida you also have to vote Yes/No to waive fully funded reserves. So for Aventuras, you don't vote for board members?

The online proxy only allows you to appoint someone as a proxy to vote your shares. It does not provide any opportunity to cast a vote on any issues or potential board members that may be voted on at the meeting. The only two proxy options provided are 1) McNish (the VP of Operations for Marriott); and 2) a blank space to write in the name of someone who will be at the meeting who has the authority to vote your shares. That's it.
