Ashley Madison - is it some kind of joke?

Over the last few months I've heard ads on the radio for a website called ashleymadison.com. Apparently it is a dating service for those in a relationship (married or otherwise) who are looking for someone else (presumably at the same time). I figured it was some kind of joke and tonight went to the site; it actually looks like it might be real. It should come as no surprise that both stations I've heard their ads on have been "sports radio" which tend to cater to a male demographic....though clearly women listen to sports radio too.

It's real. I just read an article about it - not quite sure, but I think it was in Time magazine.

It's not the only such site, and the married partner(s) would not necessarily be looking at the same time, else their escapades wouldn't necessarily need to be kept secret.

I just noticed it tonight on a TV ad and looked at the web ad (when divorce is not an option) and thought it was really, really weird.

There are several politicians out there shaking their head and saying, "If only I'd known..." :D

It's been advertised on billboards in LA already for a year or so, but I haven't been up to the city (usually the Westside) to recently to see an ad for the service.

It's for real. Been hearing more and more, "mainstream," advertisements whereas, for the past year (or so), I'd only heard it on ads during non-mainstream programming. I could care less about it but I find myself just thinking, "Man o man..."

It's a site made specifically for people who are already in a relationship but want more. I forget their slogan but it is essentially that.

Hey, my guess is they're making money. To each his (or her) own. It's a funny world we live in...

Who needs an affair, when timesharing is your hobby? :hysterical:

This isn't the only website that offers this type of service, but it is the only one that I have heard of that claims to be for married people looking for affairs.

It is rumored that many single people are pretending to be married so they can get a date with a married person. The situation is so bad that there are hardly any married people at all using services like that because they meet only single people. If a married person wants to meet another married person to have an affair with they have to hook up online with a "singles only" dating service - that is where all the married people are.:)

It's kind of an amazing idea, but aren't sites like Machmaker.com much cheaper? I think it would be funny if two people who were already a couple were on ashley madison and wound up setting up a meeting. Surely one of them would be smart enough to say "I knew it was you, I just wanted to see what kind of defence you had."

That's the general idea of the Jimmy Buffet song, If You Like Pina Coladas....

Yes, but this give a whole new meaning to "timesharing"!

Wow, I just had an idea for a completely new business! It's call "Romance Roulette" where you pick a week at a timeshare from the Adulterous Affair spacebank (whole new branch of RCI for rentals) and someone of the opposite sex (or same sex, preferences would have to be disclosed) and when you arrive, you meet your new Resort Romper!

The comment cards would have to be totally revamped, of course, so RCI could tweak your personal trading power based on comments from partners at your Romps. Joining up immediately gives you the best trading power, allowing you to Trade Up...

Sounds like a great idea for those who want to visit new and exciting locales!!!

I can see this tagline now: "I want an affair, and I want it cheap, but I don't want it with YOU"

Romance Roulette Resort Rompers

Geekette - love it, and then you could advertise it on ashleymadison.com!

Or maybe Brian would like to put a clicker ad for ashleymadison on TUG (NO, please don't really!) and make TUG some money :D
