Good morning TUGgers,

We are going in March to Aruba and very excited for the trip -- only our second trip to the island. I remember really liking the restaurants in Aruba when we were there in 2012, and I was curious of knowledgeable TUGgers could tell me the best restaurants that are within walking distance from the property? Please advise and thank you!

Best,

Greg

Hey Greg, Good Morning to you!
if you'll send me in February, I'll do a nice restaurant list. Deal?

Greg, walking distance limits the choices a bit but definitely check out Casa Nonna at the Ritz Carlton. Outstanding restaurant that we always eat at once during our stays at the Surf Club.

Another very nice restaurant down the "strip", maybe a 10-15 min walk is The Lobby restaurant. Its down near the Hyatt Hotel

If you don't mind "cabbing it" one of our favorites for Aruban/ Dutch restaurants is Quinta Del Carmen http://www.quintadelcarmen.com/main/

You can't go wrong in Aruba!

Regards,
Brian

Will do, thank you and I hope you are well!

Atardi at the Marriott next door is wonderful but why limit your options to walking distance? Taxis are inexpensive and there are some great places that are easily reached by bus.

Within walking distance I'd say Smokey Joe's, Salt & Pepper's, Casa Tea, Tango and Pelican's nest (over the water) are the ones we know and enjoy. There are lots of others within walking distance and many of them are also often recommended. A very short drive or cab away we enjoy Bingo's, Linds's Pancake & Bavaria, again there are several others in this direction that are often recommended. In town we really like El Gaucho's and in the low rise we like Matthews (waterfront), Tulip and Chalet Suisse. Almost all of these have some type of early bird or easy available discount. For a special occasion we enjoyed Atardi at the Marriott (on the sand dining). We've been to others that were not as memorable like Wacky Wahoo, Barney's, Hostaria da Vittorio, Champion's, Ruth's Chris and Aqua Grill but I don't think there are any I'd specifically steer you away from other than maybe Champion's. I can't speak to the lay of the land related to Covid and Aruba Restaurants.

Try Pincho's great sunset and Flying Fish Bone eat on the beach need to take a taxi to both, but worth it.
Enjoy!

I'm no jme but here are my favorites.

Madame Janette's ......a must go to. short cab ride
el Gaucho Argentine...downtown
Papillon..short cab ride
Yemanja Woodfire Grill....downtown
Smokey Joe's Island Grill.... try the green monster drink.....walking distance

I would also suggest renting a jeep for at least 1 day

Have a great time, we love it there.

Hey wait a minute, jont..........you told me you had to CRAWL home......

I would not limit my restaurant choices to walking distance. We have been going annually since 1986. Here are our favorites: Chalet Suisse, Madame Janette, El Gaucho, Wilhelmina, Hostaria da Vittorio (WD), BLT steak (WD), Blossoms (WD), Yemanja Grill, Diana's Pancakes(WD)

Haha- I'm SO jealous. We've been risk adverse to traveling so recently cancelled our February trip...:bawl:If we're lucky and can vaccinated sooner rather than later maybe we can think about March. With all their safety measures and pre-arrival or arrival testing it probably is one of the safer places to travel, so have a great time!!
We all have our list of favorites, so I'll add a few more: the only additional one in walking distance is Azzurro's, overlooking the beach at the Playa Linda. Their pasta in the wheel is always a fun part of dinner. Oh- and maybe Aqua Grill- we haven't been there in several years, though I do have friends that enjoy it.
A few more that you need to drive to- Barefoot (ask for a table on the beach), Passions (on the beach)- except for once we've had really good to excellent dinners there, but others have complained of poor service and/or ok food, Yemanja (what they lack in ambiance they more than make up for in outstanding food; even our NYC foodie kids have raved about their dinners there), Terrazo Italiano (on the roofdeck at Paradise Beach Villas; it's a small Italian place, very homey, Maroc for a casual wine bar/tapas place (kinda fun and different to order several small portions).

Lot's of great choices. We all have our favorites, but in over 20 trips there's only one place I ever went to that I would never return to. I don't think we've ever had a worse experience anywhere than we did at Papamiento, so I'm glad that no one has recommended it.

Enjoy the sun, the beach and, most importantly, the people, Aruba is a special place, and I feel so sorry for the people there who've been struggling with the dearth of tourism. Even this week Marriott is only at 60% of capacity, with many of the regulars who go every Christmas cancelling.

And I know you only asked about restaurants, but if you want to do some after dinner jewelry shopping (or your wife does ;)) walk over the Casablanca. It's outside the mall on the street facing the hotels, so a short walk. Tell Paul and Ash I say hi- they know us well :D. Seriously, though, they have beautiful and unusual pieces, and everyone I've sent there has thanked me. Even my jeweler friend was impressed with their things (they have many custom designs) and their prices.

The Marriott Ocean Club has a wonderful pop up restaurant once a week on the beach at sunset. We eat there ever time we go and it's great. You should check it out.

I never knew that- what's the pop up restaurant called?

We went to Papiamentos last night and it was fantastic. Highly recommend it for the food and atmosphere.
