So, looking to go to Aruba for the first time this August with the family(3 kids, 23, 19, and 16). We are MVC fans and have had great experiences at various ones. So, my question is, which MVC in Aruba would you recommend; Surf Club or Ocean Club? FWIW, we are a mellow subdued type family. Thank you.

Mellow, subdued, I’d say Ocean Club is more relaxed. If you want/need a lazy river, then Surf Club would be the choice.

In previous years,We have stayed at the Surf Club 3 times using our Gold Harbour Lake Unit to exchange through II…always loved the lazy River..last year we decided we wanted to stay at the Ocean Club for a change..and were confirmed into a Platinum 1BR OV Villa Last November…We are all set for mid April…also added another night using abound points as the flight from PHL-AUA was cheaper leaving a day early.

Ocean Club is quieter, but especially your kids will enjoy the Lazy River, more extensive pools and even the swim up bar (my younger grandkids love their mudslides) at the Surf Club. Same beach and beach activities.
Enjoy!

Ocean Club also has a swim up bar… that’s a bit quieter.

For your situation and ages, I don't think it matters much. If you're looking at an exchange or using club points, you might consider opening up to both for added flexibility (exchange) and the possibility of getting the best unit type available (points). SC has W/D in the units, OC has community W/D I believe.

For us, Ocean Club was boring. We've only stayed there once since 2005. Our favorite is definitely the Surf Club. Your children would love the lazy river and more amenities at SC. We try to vacation at SC every year. Last year we were there in October, which was the best time for us. There were less people.

I would pick the Surf Club if its available, but Ocean Club is perfectly acceptable as well. They are right next to each other so same beach. Surf Club has the lazy river and it just a lot more lively in general than Ocean Club.

Best advice- either one is great. And if you're looking for August and a 2BR best to look for both options and take whichever you can get.
Good luck- our favorite place :)

Grande Ocean Platinum, 3 x Grand Chateau 3 Bedroom (annual, EOY Odd, EOY Even).,
The surf club can be a zoo when it comes to getting chairs and huts. If you can deal with this, stay at the surf. The lazy river is great. When I am with the kids (32 and 35) with their spouses we stay at the Surf. When it is just m6 wife and I orvwith friends we stay at the ocean. Can’t go wrong with either.

Ask the “kids”- can they live without the lazy river?
Our kid was 14 when we stayed at ocean club. We walked over to surf club to have a look and she declared it a “radio Disney nightmare”- and she loves kids and babysat all the time.

We've stayed at Surf Club maybe a dozen times, and Ocean Club once. They're right next to each other and basically share the same beach - what little of it there really is - the pools at the Surf Club are much more interesting, especially the lazy river. I'll agree with the person here who thought that the Ocean Club was "boring. It was certainly nice enough, but we really didn't care for it enough to go back there.

Coincidentally enough, I'm sitting here at Beachplace Towers (86 out there, blue skies), I'm wearing my Flying Fishbone tee shirt - a great restaurant that you need to drive or taxi to on the other side of the island.

I haven't been to either, but I seem to remember reading that one of the properties has washer/dryer in the units while the other doesn't? To us, that would be a major consideration.

Surf Club has W/D in everything but the studios. I don't think any units at Ocean Club have W/D.
