Maybe, we have to juggle 2 fixed weeks, 3 float weeks and a points resort. So I post a summer calendar and try for one week at home, one week or part week in timeshare, repeat. This leads to questions like, "how many timeshares do you own?" and "were you at the lake or beach last week?" DH suggested I say "resort" instead of "timeshare." We are content with what we own--could use fewer weeks.

As Descartes surely would have said were he alive today " I timeshare therefore I am." :)

I'm definitely considered the "go-to" person for vacation stuff. Problem is people want me to tell them when to buy airfare to places I've never been, what cruise they should take, etc. That and the, "If you see a good deal let me know." Then when you FIND them a good deal, usually after some researching, they weren't serious in the first place. Or maybe the good deal they're looking for is FREE.

It has been telling that now that my husband is doing better healthwise, the first thing people are asking is, "When and where are you going on a trip?"

BevL - I can relate! :) Folks are always asking me about travel information! My biggest problem is with family & friends that we want to join us and they cannot make commitments much more than 6-12 weeks out! My best friend will call me and ask if I can get something for next month so they can join us!!! I have tried to explain that avid timeshare users book no less than 9 months out - preferably a year!

Texasbelle - we own a bunch of timeshare too (15 weeks), :) but thank goodness, we do have 5 weeks that we do not have to pay m/f on unless we go. This year we went to Mazatlan for 5 weeks and have 4 weeks (5 units, since my brother is joing us) in PV scheduled for the fall. Our friends & family just do not understand, but some are coming around and asking about "this timeshare thing". They notice that we go on much nicer vacations than they do (and many more). :D

Since we started buying timeshares our friends have decided that its a good idea and have bought their own. Now there is a bunch of us that travel fairly regulaly to the same resorts on the same weeks.

We rent our extra units to family who are now very comfortable letting us make their reservations. I just booked 9 two bed units at a resort 13 months out for a family trip. This is longer out than most of them have ever been. At 13 months out we get some nice rooms.

I am the travel expert for all our family and friends. I not only advise them but often book their travel and hotels etc.

As far as timesharing goes, I look at it as just another vacation option as we do more non-timeshare trips. We just choose which is best for us depending on where we are going.

Hi John - I think that this message is so important. You mentioned in a post to me a few months ago that not all vacations were good for timesharing. It was really helpful to me to realize that. I had been letting the trades that i could make dictate where we traveled, instead of choosing where to go and seeing if timesharing works. I have broadened my traveling horizons as a result. We are planning the big trip to Zion, Bryce and the north rim of the Grand Canyon for September, 2011 and we have our reservations at the lodges where we will be staying.

So, thanks for the help!

We did a big loop trip to Utah last year. It was a fabulous trip. We did Capital Reef National Park, Scenic Hwy 12, Bryce Canyon NP, and Zion NP. Below is a link to my trip report.

The scenery is spectacular.
