Are the beach bags we used to get from the concierge desk no longer a giveaway

Our stay at Westin Princeville, they gave us a shopping bag, no beach bag. Just curious.

I got a nice beach bag at the Westin Lagunmar this week.

Usually they don't have the bags any more. They certainly don't have the NICE, high-quality bags we used to get in the Starwood days.

Sometimes, if you specifically ask about bags, they will have a secret stash where they can get you one. More than once I've been asked not to tell anyone where I got it, lol. Maybe they are reserved for new buyers or something.

I wonder if the bags were something we actually paid for as part of our MFs. I always assumed they were a promotional gift from the developer but they might well have been items we actually paid for through the property budget.

I was told 1) that they were out of owner bags and that a shipment was expected and then 2) that the shopping bags are the owner bags. I told the concierge that Marriott raises our MFs by a huge percentage and gives us shopping bags instead of nicer canvas bags with a zipper. Oh well. We brought a bag with us from years gone by (one that says Westin Ka'anapali Ocean Resort Villas instead of Westin Vacation Club).

The one I got this week was provided while they were pitching me to go for an update, which I agreed to do for $275 USD resort credit. 90 min commitment turned into 100 minutes. We simply kept reminding them that our time was up.

The last beach bag received was as at OceanWatch, Myrtle Beach, SC in 2022.

We were handed a very lightweight (grocery-style) bag last week at Westin Los Cabos as a 'thank you' for being an owner, along with the usual pitch for the update which we declined. We left the bag in our room at the end of our stay. I always bring our higher-end Westin Ka'anapali Ocean Resort Villas bag (brown/beige canvas with a pocket on the outside and zippered pocket on the inside; palm tree pattern), regardless. It was one of the better ones back in the day!
