We're planning a ski trip for next year, and the unit in which we're considering staying for 6 or 7 nights has a murphy bed. I've never slept on one. Are they comfortable?

Very comfortable. Much better than sofa sleepers.

Just don't drop them on your foot, like my DH did - very painful! :D

The murphy bed in one of our condos last fall was very comfortable.

The Murphy beds at Killington Grand and Mt Snow are very comfortable. Regular mattresses, no lumps or bumps.

Son says yes

Whenever we travel my son (now 15) wants to know if they have a Murphy bed? He would rather sleep on it then on a regular bed.

Don't forget, they are much more comfortable if you put them down before trying to sleep in them....

Murphy beds are much more comfortable. We own at Iron Blossam, and they have murphy beds. They also have a special inflatable mattress that they will come and put on the sleeper sofas. I liked it better than the regular bed! I could control the firmness, and it had a top on it that felt just like a mattress.

I slept in the Murphy bed at Angels Camp, CA and agree that it was very comfortable. Much better than the twin bed I tried the first night:)

The reason they are more comfortable, obviously, is that they do not have that spring and metal mechanism, along with a skinny little folded up mattress that sleep sofas do.

We too now travel with a self-contained inflatable. We never fold out a sleep sofa any more.
