Just got back from there
My first visit, and i too, had heard about the 'old building' before i got there. i called the resort a few days before arrival and requested a room in the new building. They said no assignments are made until the day of check in and availibilty. Once there I was given a nice room in the new building, 5th floor and ocean view, the construction was very nice, but the beds are hard ;(
The resort is small in size, but I liked it since it was quiet and there wasn't alot of people around. It sits on one end of the beach from town, with only a handful of other properties between it and the end of the coastline a mile away.
You can walk to the Mega store ( 10-15 mins away) for groceries, a cab ride is $5 back. We rented a car for the week through Fiesta Rent a car ( at the lobby) and that made it nice for us to be mobile whenever we wanted. Cabo San Lucas is 30 min away if you need some more excitement, but we found it to be kind of 'aggressive and it drove us irratible' after a night out. Todos Santos is an hour and a half away , and it is a nice drive up the Pacific coast where you will see lots of cactus and virgin beaches.
We enjoyed being in San Jose, downtown there are many art galleries and intimate restaruants, Thursday night is the 'artwalk' with many wine tastings. We ate out most nights, trying a different place. Morgans, La Botega, and Cynthias just down the street, where all fine places.
The pool is kind of small, but nice. Hardly any kids while we were there ( a plus!) and we swam in the ocean out front with no problem. A little bit of current the first 30' out but it is shallow and if you just relax alittle you are fine.
If you are into partying, this resort is not the place. But if relaxation and a quiet atmosphere is your thing, then this place is just fine.
I'm going back! We are in our 40's and it was a nice vacation
