Anyone else receive a II trade they didn't request?

This is a strange one. I have 3 trades in for the Maui Marriotts and Westins for 3/30-5/5/2024 to hopefully align with my owned weeks. I have a pretty regular approach to these exchange requests, and every year since 2019 it has produced trades into 2BDRM Maui units that are very valuable to me. It allows me to rent my fixed week units for a nice premium and go to Maui using trades produced from cost effective Harbor Pointe weeks. Just this April we did this and it worked out perfectly where we rented our fixed weeks, and used 2 great HP trades into the MOC and even had friends use the LO, so that success brings excellent value that we try to duplicate every year

So with 2024 I put in these requests asap and wait. When I saw the exchange come through late last night I was very excited. My excitement quickly turned to confusion because the date for the exchange is for late May 2024, definitely outside of my travel window. Now I assumed I made the mistake but called II to try to understand what happened and make sure my other exchanges were correct. What I was told was that on April 3rd I received a call from a II CSR to change the dates and I accepted a change to extend the acceptable date range to July 4th 2024. Now I know 100% that never happened. I'm sure anyone doing the same with pending requests knows the phone # 800-822-2920 that is II calling, trying to get you to expand your exchange criteria so they can get their exchange fee (these were Request First). I have never even answered that call since I know what it is but yet on April 3rd, they say not only did I answer the call but I agreed to extend my dates. That just did not happen.

So while I hate to throw back such a great trade, which is a Marriott HP week 32 for a Maui Ocean Club Oceanview 2BDRM/3BTH (according to Marriott codes) its not a great match for my objective and I'm very concerned someone within II did something self serving so I have to decide by today if I want to keep it or not.

Anyone else ever experience this?

Never, in 12 years of heavy II usage.

That is so weird.

I've had it happen once where they confirmed an exchange not within my parameters "assuming I'd want the other option". I called and they reinstated my exchange and I only lost a day in the cue. I've also had an II rep cancel an exchange unilaterally and I'm convinced they did it out of spite. We had a disagreement about the feasibility of a given exchange so I believe they wanted to make certain I didn't get the exchange. II corrected it and given I lost several days at a time when exchanges were likely to have been available, they put me on a priority exchange list so I'd get the next one that came in. While II couldn't confirm intent, they acknowledged the mistake was on their end. Ultimately it likely worked to my favor. Had I not caught it, the outcome could have been a problem.

Don't you just love arguing with II people on the phone? I had an argument with a person at II about bus availability at Disney resorts that can take up to two hours. "It's not a very convenient bus service at the resorts." She also told me that the inventory II gets is very different than the inventory I can get as a DVC member. It was a weird conversation. She was trying to talk me out of my OGS request for Disney only for our kids and the other set of grandparents (one of which needs dialysis regularly and cannot be in the parks all day).

In March, while on Maui, I had an II person tell me that I most definitely did get an email for a week I received via exchange. I called to cancel the request. I argued that I didn't get any email, that the match just appeared in my account without notification. Seriously, it was a crazy conversation. I was not annoyed, I just wondered if he ever thought II could miss an email. I think II is far from perfect.

Maybe it's time to loop in the Tug rep for II - Mark Delcampo. They shouldn't be able to get away with lying to you.

Sadly email is not reliable. They may have sent it without it being received.
According to my daughter, emails are definitely not perfect. But I suspect she ignores my emails and tells me she never receives them. ;)

Haven’t had that happen. However, I have had II reps over the phone enter wrong date windows into my exchange only for me to find out later :(. I’ve also had II confirm an exchange with no email confirmation and no phone call. It’s odd to find this out when browsing your II account exchange history weeks after the confirmation and a couple months from travel. We made it work, but odd.

In addition. I do not answer the II phone # 800-822-2920 any longer…as it is almost always an II rep trying to sell me into their new rewards program. I wish they would separate these numbers.

I once had a request for MM1, but it confirmed into MMO. I called within 24 hours, declined the match and got the search reinstated. I am sure MMO was not on my request, I had a screenshot saved.

Yeah, they can definitely get messed up. So, now, what I am doing is after setting up a OGS, they of course call me to say they found this or that (not what I wanted), and I hate those calls, sooo...... The first time they call, I tell them I thought I entered a request for such and such dates only, and this resort only, can you check that? And they do. So, I might catch the error in that way. Once they happily help me by confirming the dates, I tell them no and then insist they remove me from all future calls about the OGS unless it's confirmation. And they have.

Luckily for me it wasn't something that I didn't see and it not a bad trade per se so I'm going to make it work. I've now changed my other trade requests to include matching dates for this week because ideally I get a consecutive week like I did this year.

Did telling them to remove you from future calls about the OGS work? Last year I had a request-first trade request for a 1 BR using my studio. Every few days they would call me offering me a 2BR and every week I would tell them sure, if I don't have to pay the upcharge for a 2BR. :D I started saying "I'll tell you the same thing I told the person who called me a few days ago offering me the same thing - I'm not interested". I asked them not to call me again about this but they still did every week, so I stopped answering.

Did telling them to remove you from future calls about the OGS work? L
Yes, I've done it about 4 times now, and each time, has worked, even months later. I don't just ask, I tell them in no uncertain terms how much I hate the calls, very aggressively. It's worked for me, YMMV.

Along a similar thread.

I had an MVCI deeded weeks reservation, which I made an II "Request First" exchange request. That "Request First", never came through...so I cancelled it. II stated my MVCI deeded week reservation would be returned to me. This is as I expected.

However, I'm a week after I cancelled. I no longer see II request first exchange request....but I also don't have my MVCI reservation back in my account nor on my Marriott.com reservation list. How long does it actually take them to officially return it..and for it to be visible in the downstream systems. I would have expected a day or two at most...but a week+? Might have to contact II back again...ugh...but curious if anyone knows?

BTW - This was "Request First"...not "Deposit".
